This is an extremely RARE SOUTH AFRICAN FIRST (and only !) PRESSING of DAVID BOWIE'S ground breaking first 12'' release from 1970.
An original first pressing in its UK format is a rare thing in itself and this distinctive First Pressing from South Africa is even rarer !
Comes in a SINGLE PICTURE sleeve ( UK was a GATEFOLD ) and with DISTINCTIVE RED PHILLIPS labels ( UK labels were BLACK ).
You very rarely come across this LP in any shape or form as when originally released in 1970 it sold in such very very small quantities and was quickly deleted so nowadays very few ORIGINAL copies are to be found at all. I do remember seeing one other listed on EBay perhaps a year ago now...
Visually graded under a 100W light source the vinyl retains VERY PLUS GOOD sheen - both sides have lots of visible marks, both hairlines and more noticeable marks.
And this does result in audible surface noise in the form of crackle, clicks and pops - but fortunately at no point does the record skip or jump. For me I would genuinely grade at VERY GOOD PLUS but to err on the side of caution I will say VERY GOOD. It has obviously been played and enjoyed a lot ( and who knows what its story and journey has been !! ) but it is still an enjoyable listen - turn it up loud and the crackles and pops become less significant !
Both sides have been PLAY GRADED.
Side 1 is graded - VERY GOOD.
Side 2 is graded VERY GOOD PLUS.
The RED PHILLIPS labels ( the UK version was issued with BLACK labels ) are graded EXCELLENT MINUS with some minor visible spindle wear.
The thin card FLIP BACK FRONT LAMINATED sleeve is graded VERY GOOD - has creases and some laminate lift and feathering and small tears to the opening but no splits and the spine remains legible.
This South African version comes with its ORIGINAL GREEN MERCURY INNER sleeve ( as issued with the US versions ! ) which is also graded at VERY GOOD PLUS.
All in all a very rare pressing of an already rare classic Lp.
All records are shipped in new custom made strong CARDBOARD MAILERS ( not card envelopes ) with stiffeners as required.
