Bowie's concept album Diamond Dogs and it compositions were loosely based around George Orwell's Novel 'Nineteen Eighty-Four' first published in 1949. Orwell draws from his own life experiences within the novel, and has taken from his own experiences and wanderings through a war-torn London, and creates a vision of a dystopia world within the completed novel.
Bowie before making the album 'Diamond Dogs' had been previously denied the rights to make a theatrical production of the novel, by the Orwell estate, as had others before him. In 1973 the remnants of his work for this proposed production would be used with newer ideas to create the album, portraying through music and the lyrics of a post-apocalyptic world throughout majority of the album.
Recording for the album started in October 1973 at Olympic and Island Studios in London, and also Hilversum Holland, Studio L Ludolf see the album completed in February the following year. The album Diamond Dogs would be released by RCA Victor Records 24th April 1974, following the Chart Single release of Rebel Rebel on the 15th February.
The Sleeve artwork specifically designed for a Gatefold was painted by the aristocratic artist Guy Peellaert, who's general style of using pastels to create Photorealistic was considered to be the must have artist. On completion Bowie would be encapsulated into an image of being half dog half man, in David Bowie's own words "a visibly obvious male dog". RCA Records were horrified by image, which showed a little to much for their liking! So RCA changed the artwork by the use of an Airbrush, but only after the albums release. So a few of these extremely rare sleeves are found now and again, and generally their condition is of little importance for the collector.

The Record sleeve is a matt printed card, folded gatefold, with track list and credits on the back, with a banner 'The Strangest Living Curiosities' hinting at the musical compositions within. The outer sleeve, Man Dog image is revealed completely when opened, and inside and abstract image of a city dominated by tall towers.
LABELS:..
The 1st Issue labels are both found clean, with one or two traces of light spindle lines, I have clearly played the record but always with care, these spindle lines were found on the labels at the time I purchased the record. However the lack of wear around the spindle hole reflects how little the record has been played.
EXCELLENT +
VINYL:..
Both surfaces visually have retained their original shine. Viewed under normal daylight conditions little can be found on the surfaces. Spot lamp reveals some extremely fine sleeve removal wisps here and there. There are no visible hairlines or pressing defects to affect audio quality. The vinyl is very flat when checked on turning turntable.
EXCELLENT +
AUDIO TEST SIDE ONE:..
Slightest of static ticks can be picked out during run-in to the first track 'Future Legend', this is short lived, and is expected on this type of Media. 'Future Legend' plays straight onto the second track 'Diamond Dogs' which plays with sensational clarity and power. Sweet Thing, begins very quietly and continues this way mostly, and some extremely faint ticks can be made out in places however these are merely transient. 'Candidate' continues throughout into 'Sweet Thing (Reprise)' without issue, all are extremely complex tracks, the vinyl delivers quality! 'Rebel Rebel' has clarity power and brilliant sound separation. This track can be found over played on early vinyl's and within the zone that vinyl can suffer badly from distortion. Thankfully One has issues and easily grades as
EXCELLENT +
AUDIO TEST SIDE TWO:..
'Rock 'n Roll with me' begins side two, some static ticks are noted at the run-in and intro of this track, however these are short lived, the track continues with excellent power and clarity. 'We are the dead' has some faint static ticks, these are transient and noted only during quieter passages of this track. '1984' an example of Bowie's forward thinking this track is notably Disco in genre, but long before music was written this way. The track is lively and the vinyl delivers with clarity and without a hint of distortion. 'Big Brother' is complex composition and sounds excellent, following straight into 'Circling Skeletal Family' which ends side two with Bro, Bro, Bro to a fade......
EXCELLENT
SLEEVE CONDITION:..
The sleeve has some light storage wear to the bottom and slight loss of print to areas of spine. Opening edges are free of fraying card and still have straight cut edge to both sides. The surfaces are free of dents and scratch marks, and clear of writing both inside and out. The inside/outside are both very clean and retain the printing blush. Excellent
INNER SLEEVE:..
The Original inner sleeve is in excellent condition without tears or record break through to the edges. Excellent +

RECORD COLLECTORS GRADING SYSTEM
MINT The record itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. The cover and extra items are in perfect condition. Records advertised sealed or un-played should be mint.
EXCELLENT The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and / or creasing.
VERY GOOD The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.
GOOD the record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover suffers from folding scuffing of edges, spine splits, discolouration etc.
This ain’t rock ‘n’ roll.
This is genocide!
As they pulled you out of the oxygen tent
You asked for the latest party
With your silicone hump and your ten inch stump
Dressed like a priest you was
Todd browning’s freak you was
Crawling down the alley on your hands and knees
I’m sure you're not protected, for it's plain to see
The diamond dogs are poachers and they hide behind trees
Hunt you to the ground they will, mannequins with kill appeal
I’ll keep a friend serene
(will they come?)
Oh baby, come unto me
(will they come?)
Well, she's come, been and gone
Come out of the garden, baby
You’ll catch your death in the fog
Young girl, they call them the diamond dogs
Young girl, they call them the diamond dogs
The Halloween jack is a real cool cat
And he lives on top of Manhattan Chase
The elevators broke, so he slides down a rope
Onto the street below, oh Tarzan, go man go
Meet his little hussy with his ghost town approach
Her face is sans feature, but she wears a Dali brooch
Sweetly reminiscent, something mother used to bake
Wrecked up and paralysed, diamond dogs are subleased
(will they come? )
I’ll keep a friend serene
will they come?
Oh baby, come unto me
will they come?
Well, she's come, been and gone.
Come out of the garden, baby
You’ll catch your death in the fog
Young girl, they call them the diamond dogs
Young girl, they call them the diamond dogs
Oo-oo-ooh, call them the diamond dogs
Oo-oo-ooh, call them the diamond dogs
In the year of the scavenger, the season of the bitch
Sashay on the boardwalk, scurry to the ditch
Just another future song, lonely little kitsch
(there's goanna be sorrow) try and wake up tomorrow
will they come?
I’ll keep a friend serene
will they come?
Oh baby, come unto me
will they come?
Well, she's come, been and gone.
Come out of the garden, baby
You’ll catch your death in the fog
Young girl, they call them the diamond dogs
Young girl, they call them the diamond dogs
Oo-oo-ooh, call them the diamond dogs
Oo-oo-ooh, call them the diamond dogs
Oo-oo-ooh, call them the diamond dogs
Bow-wow, woof woof, bow-wow, wow
Call them the diamond dogs
Dogs
Call them the diamond dogs, call them, call them
Call them the diamond dogs, call them, call them, ooo
Call them the diamond dogs
Keep cool
Diamond dogs rule, ok
Hey-hey-hey-hey
