"Daddy Cool Live : The Last Drive-In Movie Show"

Original Stereo  Double LP plus 7" one-sided single,  Wizard  Records ZL 202 , released  1973. Australian pressing. Gatefold cover.

Daddy Cool were one of the most successful Australian bands of the '70s  and one of the icons of Australian rock. 

The item for auction is an original 1st pressing of their third and final album - a double LP live recording of their farewell gig at the Much More Ballroom in August 1972. Despite the bands popularity at the time, this live album sold less than 5000 copies from its first release, and is considered by far the rarest of their three 'original' albums ( Daddy Who?Daddy Cool! and Sex,Dope & Rock'nRoll:Teenage Heaven were the other two LPs released before this one). 

The track order apparently follows the set-list on the night (source: Milesago) . Record1 features the original four-piece Daddy Cool doing their R&B covers plus some rockabilly material from their drummer Gary Young. On Record 2, the 2nd half of the show, Ian 'Willy' Winter joins the band on guitar for some progressive material such as 'Flash In My Head' and '(Boy You're) Paranoid'. The final song for the night was a version of 'Daddy Cool' which was issued on the unusual bonus one-sided 33rpm 7" single which only came with the originally released pressing.

This LP's are in very good or above condition. Side One has two areas of light surface lines however these do not affect playability or sound.There are some scattered light surface marks and some sleeve scuffs on Sides 2, 3 and 4 however all sides play extremely well with excellent dynamics. The 7" single is in excellent condition and looks almost unplayed. All records have excellent gloss/sheen. There is no writing on the labels.

Cover -Ex: Front cover, back cover and inner gatefold are in great condition.There is slight ring wear at the very top and bottom of the cover but no ink loss and virtually no creasing. Colour saturation is fantastic. All corners and edges are clean and crisp. Spine without splits or ink wear. There is no writing anywhere on the front or rear covers. Inner gatefold in excellent condition with virtually no wear apparent and no writing.The laminated cover has a couple of inconspicuous 'nicks' near the front cover sleeve opening, plus another just below the drive-in screen picture. There is very slight lifting of laminate  along the sleeve openings and along the bottom edge of the rear cover. A 3cm long by 4mm piece of laminate is missing along the  edge of the rear cover sleeve opening at the bottom.

This a clean, exceptionally well cared for Ist pressing of the rarest album by Daddy Cool, one of the most legendary Australian bands of the 1970's.
