Here it is…the HOLY GRAIL of FUNK!

I am unaware of this AWESOME GEM ever having come up for auction before, but here is your opportunity to grab hold of a record that even some of the most serious record collectors have on their lists and are unable to obtain. This is that elusive original pressing of Curry (Johnson) and the Black Earth Plus on Mr. Johnson’s own Curricane label. Pressed in 1971, this was Curry’s first record on the label that he started in Milwaukee, WI (not somewhere in the islands as many people think). Black Earth Plus was Curry’s regular backing band for shows in the area and they played back up for many of the famous acts that passed thru town on tour, such as Ike and Tina Turner, Joe Tex, The New Yorkers, Deon Jackson, Harvey Scales and the Seven Sounds, Alvin Cash and many, many more. According to Curry only 500 copies of this classic were ever pressed and it was distributed regionally with limited radio airplay. How this record made it from Wisconsin down to the small South Carolina town where I located it a couple of weeks ago is a complete mystery to me. However, that is fortunate for all of you Funk/Soul fanatics out there as I was able to save it from the unprotected basement storage that it had been residing. It will now be available for some lucky winner to enjoy and spin again as it was originally intended. The Vinyl is in VG condition with some scuffs and very minor scratches. There is nothing that detracts from the sound quality that wasn’t already somewhat present in the cheap original production from the Bananas Production Studio where these were pressed back in ‘71 (please take a moment to listen to the partial sound clips of both sides that came directly from the record unfiltered/altered/etc.). The Label condition is in beautiful VG++ condition with no writing, tears or other of the usual problems that detract from these rare releases. Please do not hesitate to ask questions before bidding.
