Description

Issued in the Lansdowne series by Columbia in 1968, cat # SCX 6214; this is “Phase III” by the Don Rendell Ian Carr Quintet.

The sleeve has seen better days, but retains its integrity and is not been abused in multiple ownership of been circulated around charity shops or dealers.

The non-laminated sleeve has wear to the front with visible ringwear. Each seam has some shelf wear, but no splits – save for a tiny cut into the lower seam at the opening edge. The spine is still largely legible. The opening edge is clean and straight with no feathering indicating that the record has not been removed a great deal from the sleeve. The rear of the sleeve has the expected age-related discolouration and has the original owners’ details in the top corner telling exactly when he bought the album. I believe the sleeve just about warrants a “very good” grading.

The inner sleeve is the standard pictorial EMI inner from the late 60’s.

The record labels exhibit very little wear and precious few spindle marks; you could certainly count the number of marks without much bother. The labels are clean with no writing.

The playing surfaces are the final indicator that this album has not been played a great deal in its 45 years and has been well looked after by its only owner. There are a couple of very tiny scuff marks on the final track on side one and a further couple very light marks on the vinyl that have no substance to them whatsoever.

I have given the record a test play on high quality equipment and found the sound quality matched the visual appearance of the vinyl. The record deserves an “excellent” grading.
