Description

Columbia Records Ground Breaking Ceremonies December 11, 1962, Santa Maria, California.  Extremely rare LP pressed to preserve and commemorate the events and ground-breaking festivities of the new Columbia Records plant in Santa Maria, California.  Vinyl is in NM condition.  Cover is in VG condition.  It has light staining over the entire front cover. 

One side (the black label side) has the KCOY radio coverage of the new Columbia Records Plant ground breaking ceremonies.  It is spoken word and features speakers like Andy Shrade (Spelling?) - President of Columbia Records/Director of West Coast Operations, mayors, city councilmen, etc..

This is a historic and very rare album.  On the Columbia Records 2-Eye label side the label reads "Not For Sale" on the top.  There is music on this side of the LP.     

It is very interesting to hear the embracing of the new Columbia Records Plant, the largest in the west, by the city of Santa Maria, California instead of the current trend of regulating businesses out of cities.  This new facility was on the dawn of the coming explosion of records via The Beatles.  Columbia Records had amazing foresight.

This is a rare piece of musical history.

Includes a program from the "Installation Banquet" held by the Santa Maria Valley Developers, dated March 7, 1963.
