1916 Columbia Racist 78 RPM Record #A1999: "Nigger Love A Watermelon Ha! Ha! Ha!" First let me apologize to those who may be offended (and quite justly so) by this record. According to NPR (and many others), this record is "the most racist song title in America." Probably true. NPR goes on to state: "Released in March 1916 by Columbia Records, it was written by actor Harry C. Browne and played on the familiar depiction of black people as mindless beasts of burden greedily devouring slices of watermelon." Obviously this antique record is an important American historical artifact, and is offered here as such. The record does not reflect my opinions or beliefs at all.

Here is an unusually well-preserved Columbia A1999 78 in its original sleeve. Real nice labels on both sides. The photos pretty much show the condition. It may make a "pop" or two, but really has few surface disturbances and should play through just fine. The final photo shows a round light spot from dust on the lens, but is included to show the main fault: the light scratch (cannot be felt with a fingertip) on the "Old Dan Tucker" side.
