Description
Clear Blue Sky, UK Vertigo Swirl, PROG ROCK LP, EX
Clear Blue Sky, Same.
1970 UK pressed Vertigo Records stereo LP housed in Roger Dean designed gatefold sleeve, 6360 013.Vinyl in excellent condition. A few light spider trace marks visible around the spindle areas, but not to the point of excess. There is actually still some vinyl residue at the centre spindle areas from manufacture (see picture). Vinyl surfaces are virtually free of marks, save for a very few tiny and superficial sleeve removal type hairlines, only visible under very close scrutiny. There is just one slightly more visible mark, around the area of the penultimate track on side two. This is a small hairline mark, however, and not a deep gouge or scratch. The ocassional very low level and quiet tick can be heard here, but there are no loud or continuous clicks, duration is very short, and listening enjoyment remains virtually unimpaired. All in all, this appears to be an LP which has been played and enjoyed a few times, but not to excess, and handled with care. Labels are clean and undefaced.
Sleeve in mostly clean and complete condition. Finish is predominantly white and unlaminated, and this one has picked up a few slight handling marks here and there. The photos should show this fairly clearly. The vast majority of the smudgy looking patch at the top centre front is actually part of the design (meant to be smoke presumably), but there are possibly also some handling marks in this same area, quite hard to differentiate! There is a slight mark to the top left area of the inner gatefold. Otherwise marks are few and not particularly obtrusive. The majority of the sleeve is still pretty nice and clean. Else condition is very acceptable. No scuffs, stickers, or sticker removal marks. No inscriptions or pen marks. No excessive wear, and no seam splits or feathering at insertion side. Edges are crisp and well delineated, with just hints of storage chipping along top rear edge - very light. Spine area is clean, with all print legible, and just a hairline thin central crease. Part of the spine text has been blocked out at the production stage, not sure how common this is with this LP, probably applied to cover a misprint. None of the tips have wear, they are all nice and sharp still. The head and foot of the spine have just touches of wear. The photo of the visible part of the spine is pretty indicative of spine condition throughout, with the head and foot areas being in virtually identical condition.
Inner sleeve is original Swirl, and unmarked and untorn. A little light creasing, evident in photo.
A modest reserve has been set to cover my inital investment in this LP, although I believe it is well under the current market price.
Details:One of the more critically acclaimed LPs issued by Vertigo, and produced by Patrick (Nirvana) Campbell-Lyons. This assured slab of Prog is all the more remarkable for having been created by a trio of 18 year old semi-pros! Strangely they never went on to better things, this was the sole release by the band.
