Description
A music lover thinning out his collection has about 250 78s for sale, lovingly bought in the 1950s.
They comprise about 150 records from the golden age of recorded singing, 1900 – 1940, with incomparable singers such as Caruso, Galli-Curci, McCormack, Tamagno (who created the part of Verdi’s Otello), Elisabeth Schumann, and many others, in Italian and German opera, Lieder, and other music.
Also 90 records of Gilbert & Sullivan, mostly recorded by HMV in 1925 – 1930 when the D’Oyly Carte company was at its best with singers such as Henry Lytton, Bertha Lewis, and George Baker. Sets of Gondoliers, Iolanthe, Ruddigore, Pinafore, Pirates, Mikado (1925), and most of Patience, as well as the abridged Sorcerer on 10 inch.
A few of the records are in mint condition, most are in good condition, a few are scratched.
