Clark Bridges – ‘Foxy’ / ‘I’ve Caught You Cheatin’’ – C.J. 655 (US)
Chicago’s C.J. label, owned by Carl Jones – a fair-dealing gentleman by all accounts – used to be known chiefly for its sixties blues releases, but is fast becoming collectable for its much rarer seventies soul, including great discs by artists such as Patti Lenoir & The Hi Stands, Gloria Fowler, Morris Lewis, and many others. Arguably one of the best, and certainly one of the scarcest 45s on the label, is this crucial two-sider by the obscure Clark Bridges. The topside is a moody, minor key masterpiece with a fierce rhythm track; the medium-paced flip is, if anything, even better.
The disc is near mint; if you need this record for your collection, you’ll most likely never come across a finer copy. A ‘Buy It Now!’ option is offered, something I sometimes hope to find myself as a reward for spending too many hours on eBay...
Condition: Excellent or a notch better, this copy has been played less than a handful of times; a little dust, that’s all (please listen to the clips). Perfectly clean labels (please see scans).
