Clara Rockmore: Theremin presented by Shirleigh and Robert Moog label & cat. no.:
Delos Quality Audiophile Series D/QA 25437 pressed in:
Japan date:
1981 format:
LP condition:
Vinyl: nm (looks unplayed)
Cover: nm- (minor edge wear) description:
Ultra rare audiophile half-speed mastered 1981 Japanese issue of this landmark 1975 recording produced by synth-god Robert Moog, probably the greatest example of the Theremin being taken seriously as a solo instrument. This "imported Super Vinyl Pressing from JVC-Japan" is by far the most brilliant-sounding (and rarest) version of this album ever released, and cosmetically is identical to the original 70s issue except for an added sticker with pressing details inside the gatefold and slightly different labels on the vinyl. Rockmore, the Theremin's original virtuoso and darling of inventor Leon Theremin, is featured here performing arrangements for Theremin and piano of works by Rachmaninoff, Saint-Saens, De Falla, Wieniawski, Stravinsky, Ravel, Tschaikowsky, and Glazunov alongside pianist Nadia Reisenberg. This essential Theremin artifact includes the full gatefold cover with extensive essays by Moog (who began his career as a Theremin builder) on the device's history, inner workings, and eccentric inventor.

artist info from album notes etc.:
Rockmore was a Russian violinist who became the world's foremost Thereminist and collaborated with Leon Theremin to refine the unique motion-controlled early electronic instrument he invented in 1919. This album will be of interest to fans of composers and early electronic instruments like Dr. Samuel J. Hoffman, Harry Revel, Les Baxter, Oskar Sala and his trautonium, John Eaton and the Syn-Ket, Donald Buchla, Morton Subotnick, Miklos Rosza, Ondioline, Raymond Scott, Bruce Haack, ARP, Jean-Jacques Perrey, Gershon Kingsley, Jean-Michel Jarre, Paul Beaver, Bernie Krause, Hugh Le Caine, Percy Grainger, Pierre Henry, Lothar and the Hand People, Dick Hyman, Stereolab, Olivier Messiaen, ondes Martenot, Edgard Varese, and Tom Dissevelt.
