Grading Scale

Sealed   Jacket sealed shut in shrink wrap; disc sold ungraded or "as is".

NM      VINYL: A near perfect record, has no obvious signs of wear.  No scratches, no skipping, no crackling, no pops, no dullness, no cue burns, etc. May have a barely visible scuff or two from removing record from the paper sleeve.

JACKET: Some slight wear, almost invisible ring wear, lightly turned up corners, no seam splits. Possible promo corner cut or hole punch, will specify if visible.

EX       VINYL: May have one or two visible imperfections (i.e. sleeve scuffs, faint scratches, or other superficial marks) that will not affect play.

JACKET: Artwork should be close to perfect. Some impressions to the cover, minor outer ring wear, but no ink wear, slight creases to the corners not wrinkled. Corners or edges can show very slight wear. No seam splits, writing, or taped repairs.

VG+    VINYL: Vinyl has surface wear, including visible scratches and scuffs, but no detrimental impact on the sound quality, and may likely play with some surface noise, and some pops or clicks. Vinyl may begin to show signs of wear from play; labels may have imperfections (writing, labels, tears, spindle marks, etc.)

JACKET: Clean but may have writing or marks and will show some wear. There may be ring wear, where the disc has created a raised area on the cover that resulted in the ink wearing off the paper. There may be discoloration or staining, seam wear, and/or minor splits or tears (nothing over 1 inch), or indentations in the sleeve. Corners can have creases or fraying and bumps, and spine may have wear. Store price stickers or residue from the same.

VG         VINYL: Shows some signs of wear that it has been played, but carefully handled. Slight scuffs or very light marks that do not affect the play of the record. No skipping, may have some occasional pops here or there but otherwise not noticeable by the average listener.
JACKET: Cover is worn and used. Seams may be starting to split or may have been unobtrusively repaired with clear tape. (I use special archival-quality, non-yellowing, clear tape for all repairs.) There is moderate ring wear, but the artwork is still attractive. There may be yellowing or discoloration and there may be larger writing, labels, or marks. Corners may have damage or creases and there may be scratches or gouges that otherwise damage the artwork. Might have light water damage.

VG-        A number of visible imperfections; the presence of a considerable number of light scratches will force a VG- grade, as will the presence of significant isolated defects such as scratches deep enough to be felt with a fingernail.

G+         VINYL: The record will have a lot of notable marks and scratches, but still plays through without skipping, so it can serve as filler until something better comes along. There could be significant surface noise or groove wear, and/or the label is worn.
JACKET:  Has significant ring wear, heavy writing, or obvious damage caused by someone trying to remove tape or stickers and failing miserably. Has seam splits obvious on sight. Could have water damage or peeling of the cover.

G         VINYL: Pervasive imperfections of varying degrees including both light scratches and scratches deep enough to be felt with a fingernail. G+ and G- are used to indicate stronger and weaker copies within this range.

JACKET: Has significant ring wear, heavy writing, or obvious damage caused by someone trying to remove tape or stickers and failing miserably. Has large seam splits obvious on sight. Could have water damage or peeling of the cover

            GENERIC (ONLY USED FOR JACKET)

JACKET:  The original vinyl sleeve is missing for the specific record, or the vinyl does not have an original sleeve.  In this case, a generic vinyl sleeve is used for the record.
