Charles Mingus Atlantic Records Test Pressing Archive – 4 Original Test Pressings
This listing is for an exceptionally rare archive of four original Atlantic Records Charles Mingus test pressings, all acquired together from a single estate and preserved as a group for decades. Original Atlantic test pressings from this era are seldom offered for sale, and finding four related Mingus titles together is extraordinarily uncommon.
Included Titles
* Changes One – Original APPROVED production stamp
* Changes Two – Original REJECTED production stamp
* Mingus Moves – Handwritten “A” notation on label
* Mingus at Carnegie Hall – Handwritten “A” notation on label
Production History
These are authentic Atlantic Records test pressings featuring original white test labels with handwritten production information. Several sides include AT/GP (George Piros) mastering in the deadwax, while other matrix markings are consistent with Atlantic Records manufacturing practices of the period.
Changes One retains its original APPROVED production stamp, while Changes Two bears an original REJECTED production stamp, documenting different stages of Atlantic Records’ internal evaluation process. The remaining two test pressings feature handwritten “A” notations on their labels, exactly as found.
Archive
All four records were acquired together and have remained together as a single archive. The matching Atlantic test labels, handwritten production markings, production stamps, handwritten notations, and period matrix inscriptions make this a remarkable surviving group from the production process.
Condition
Please review all photographs carefully, as they are part of the description. These are genuine working test pressings produced for internal evaluation and may exhibit handling consistent with studio and production use. Additional photos of labels, deadwax inscriptions, and jackets are available upon request.
A Rare Opportunity
Test pressings were manufactured in extremely limited quantities for evaluation by mastering engineers, producers, and label personnel before commercial production. Most were discarded after serving their purpose, making surviving examples exceptionally scarce.
This archive includes both an APPROVED and a REJECTED Atlantic Records Charles Mingus test pressing, along with two additional test pressings bearing handwritten production notations, offering a rare opportunity to own an authentic piece of jazz recording history and a unique look into the production process behind these classic albums.
Please message me with any questions or if you would like additional photographs of the labels, deadwax inscriptions, or matrix information before purchasing. Priced to sell make me an offer
