Charlie Johnson's Orchestra opened Small's Paradise in New York City in 1925 and remained their House Band for ten years. 

Monette Moore appeared regularly with the Charlie Johnson Band and in the 30's, was an understudy to Ethel Waters, and had a long career in the music business, up to her death in 1962.

Condition of Record: (E) to (E +)

Very Shiny, plays like a new record, with very few signs of handling.

 Both labels (at the top) appear to have had a sticker removed... See photos

His Question: "Looking at the labels, they look a bit scruffy. can you confirm that the record, particularly the Johnson side is E to E+ please? Can you also tell me your cost of shipping to the UK. Thanks"

My Response:   

I certainly respect your concern…

…regarding the Condition of hard-to-find records, such as this. I realize that in hopes of acquiring such items, we want them to be as unsullied as possible BUT to declare the labels as being SCRUFFY would be an extremely unfair assessment as to their appearance.

·        An adhesive sticker, ¾ inches square, had once been affixed to both labels. Apparently, the previous owner removed them with less than orderly care and consequently a very small portion of the label behind Nipper and over the Horn has been removed on SIDE A. On Side B, in the same area, only the adhesive remains (no portion of the label is torn away) and the adhesive residue ought to be safely removed with a simple application of water; without impairment. Beyond this, both labels are near perfect.

·        Over the years, I have been an unfortunate victim of over graded records and therefore, our grading classifications are resolutely conservative so that the buyer will not be displeased with his treasure. SIDE A could also be considered (E +) but because it has four very minor scuffs over its overall shiny surface, it has been discounted to an (E). SIDE B is (E +) throughout.

·        The Packing, Handling & Shipping Cost to send this record to the UK via First Class Mail INTERNATIONAL is $ 27.00; however, this option is NOT RECOMMENDED because the package can not be insured.
