Label Conditions: Both very clean, fresh and attractive with only light, fine and faint spindle marks. Two of three long, but so fine, they hardly even show.

Warps: Assume all records I offer have no warping of any significance and all tracking is easy and effortless and should play on all turntables and even ‘budget’ decks.

Weight of this Record: 128 grams. A solid average weight.

Rarity: Scarce: blue label originals are much harder to find, especially in very fine condition, than the black second pressings. Special mention of the cover as well: it is very thin and fragile and never easy to find without considerable wear.

Brief Info: Third album by the kings of ‘swamp rock’, and another beauty with their sound now very much established. Featuring one of the most distinctive vocalists in rock, John Fogerty, this band went from strength-to-strength. What a pleasure to view and hear this vintage copy in such super conditions too. The original blue label Liberty record looks very lightly played and the cover way better than average. A wonderful album that includes the classic ‘Bad Moon Rising’.

Cover’s Potential for Wear: Very high and prone to all the perils or rubbing, fading, creasing, ringwear and sticker damage.

Cover Grade and Format: EXCELLENT(+): and immensely difficult with so little overall wear. A single unlaminated format made with soft card and textured. Printed in England.

Cover Front & Back: Both these vulnerable faces look superb, and on their own grade more excellent(++). Barely any wear at all, the lack of creasing, rubbing and ring wear make for an exceptional example. My cautious grading only due to some rubbing on the impossiby vulnerable bottom edge. Rich and unaged colour and freshness with wonderful early band artwork, this is a piece of rock history and work-of-art and seldom will both front and back be found much better.

Top Edge: Mild patchy rubbing that shows little apart from a more moderate small rub near the centre.

Bottom Edge: This has more moderate consistent rubbing.

Right Edge(s), and Type: Clean, mostly sharp with barely a hint of wear. The odd burr or thickening trace viewed end-on being critical, but few will be neater than this. Record entered on this fragile edge that is guaranteed untrimmed.

Spine and Text: Thin, vulnerable and fragile, so to have one with most of it’s text still present and intact is some achievement. A couple of characters have eroded but that apart, most-all is there and still quite strong and easily readable. I have seen these totally barren of text, but far from the case on this one. Still solid, but flimsy – this is made with very thin card that bends freely if carelessly held – quite straight with some generally mild compression.

Corners: Moderate rubbing with the odd small tip crease, fine to very fine shape retained.

Cover Summary: A very difficult and fragile sleeve in overall, very fine condition. I make no excuse for a little edge rubbing on such fragile thin and soft surfaces. The main front, back and even spine are still impressive and this should please many collectors.

The Inner Sleeve: EXCELLENT: a Polydor style polylined inner that has only aged modestly with a little gentle discolour of the seam adhesive. Clear lining is seen through two pristine window circles, minimal creasing and all edges unsplit with no repairs. This one is date-coded 0270.

Vinyl Condition/Visual Grading: EXCELLENT: a very fine visual copy that is very clean, shiny, intense black and solidly pressed. Any fine surface marks are seen under angled light, there are NO penetrating scratches at all and few will better this vintage blue labelled copy. Clearly modestly played and offering super sound. Visually a lovely old record that should please many, if not most collectors.

I do NOT play snippets or joining grooves to check for sound quality and quietness – I play from the beginning to end via clinically revealing B&W speakers that include the legendary tweeter from their awesome Nautilus range that reveals every blemish or miniscule sound present on any record.]

Sound Quality and Audio Grading: This impressive Liberty record plays even above it’s high visual grading with practically nothing to fault. Strong, distortion-free sound, all frequencies are sharp and clear - sound quality is very high with a wide dynamic range and very detailed sound. Any surface trace sounds barely even registered and no pops or clicks were noticed and this is a top-quality clean pressing. With so many records this great age now sounding noisy with crackle and groovewear, it’s always the greatest pleasure to offer such a clean original. Few examples will outperform this clean copy. Both channels are clean and sharp, I feel very sure this record has been played little. Generally well stored and quite carefully handled. Nothing spoilt my pleasure when play-grading this wonderful record. This copy will prove very difficult to find significantly better and merits strong recommendation.

SOME GENERAL GUIDES TO WEAR AND CONDITIONS TO HELP YOU DECIDE

My Use of Description Terminology: Surface Marks = Superficial, usually light marks, hairlines or light scuffs that rarely sound. Scratch = a needle mark that goes below the record’s surface, some will sound, some will not, my play-grade will inform. Original = a record that has been pressed with the first label design which does NOT necessarily mean a very first pressed record. First Pressing = A record that I believe or know to be a genuine very first pressed record. I do not claim to always know for sure, and that’s why I state the stamper and matrix numbers if at all possible, for those who claim to know what they all mean, the information is there for the collector to decide. I prefer to use terms like ‘Early Copy’ rather than ‘First Pressing’ if I am not totally sure. Surface Sound = Mild, light sound, usually light crackle or similar. Distortion = Break up of the actual sound caused by groove wear or damage from a chipped stylus – the most undesirable form of unwanted sound, vintage mono records were the most prone to this happening but not exclusively so. The symptoms of distortion are high frequency clipping, moderate constant crackle or an echo type sound quality. Violin, piano and vocals are most prone to groove-wear distortion. Feathering = Fraying or softening of the entry edge of a cover. Covers with feathered entrance edges are more likely to have had the actual record inserted and removed more than a non-feathered, sharp-edged cover which are always far more attractive. Set Off, actually a printer’s term for dark ink leaving mild residue on pale or white ink when rested upon. e.g. when a gatefold cover has black ink closed against white, this can leave some black residue on the pale area – this is mostly unavoidable or course.

The Argument for Vinyl Original sound and mix (mono mixes are rarely available on CD), high quality sound on clean copies (played on a hi-end dedicated analogue system – breathtaking sound!), beautiful, large format covers, artwork, inserts and even full size posters etc; huge investment potential, and the pleasure of owning ‘the real thing’.
