Note! This is listed for its rarety rather than for its condition. This album is not Mint! There is some wear and tear on the vinyl, some surface scratches/scuffs/marks that do cause three or four clicks on both sides noted, but the actual main audio is clear and very vibrant. A very playable and enjoyable vinyl in my personal opinion. Having said that the very earliest and sought after 1st issued cover is truely is absolutely superb condition. Very nice and rare like this after 47 years old!

An awesome sounding original (MONO UK pressing)  I  have play tested the vinyl on a top system at very loud volume importantly with a dedicated Mono cartridge. I have also recorded the complete album for you to hear for yourself in the player below! This has a true bassey feel Please do not underestemate the rarety of this in (mono the rarest and most sought after pressing to find 1st uk issue) the only way to hear this album in my opinion very very rare to find Earliest and in mono the rarest and most sought after! Please note! The earliest and rarest 'fully laminated' cover is strong and straight without splits or tares.

The audio is rated at the Superb on all frequencies! (interference is noted as described in detail below) This is highly sought after and collectable like this and tested using a dedicated mono cartridge played on a top system! UNBELEIVABLY 45 YEARS OLD!! but of course these fully laminated covers are very sought after and rarest to find!

Hear the complete album in the player below! Actual recording from the vinyl! Just listen to the vibrancy of this earliest 1st UK Pressing!

Disraeli Gears is the second album by British blues-rock group Cream. It was released in November 1967 and went on to reach #5 on the UK album chart.

Often seen offered for sale with the more common stereo pressing but the earliest and original monos do not come up for sale that often and produce the best audio available in any format in my opinion! It was also their American breakthrough, becoming a massive seller there in 1968, reaching #4 on American charts. The album features the two singles "Strange Brew" and "Sunshine of Your Love". By this time, the group was veering quite heavily away from their blues roots to indulge in more psychedelic sounds!

The title of the album, Disraeli Gears, was actually a bit of an inside joke. Eric Clapton had been thinking of getting a racing bicycle, and was discussing it with Ginger Baker, when Mick Turner, one of the roadies, commented on the performance of "those Disraeli Gears" meaning to say "derailleur gears".

The band thought this was hilariousóBenjamin Disraeli was a prominent 19th Century British politicianóand decided that it should be the title of their next album. Had it not been for Mick, the album would simply have been entitled Cream!

Eric Clapton, Jack Bruce and Ginger Baker all contributed songs with the help of lyricist Pete Brown and producer Felix Pappalardi. The track "Blue Condition" was unusual in that Baker, although by any account not a singer, took the lead vocal.

The album was recorded in New York by their American label, the Atco division of Atlantic Records during the band's stay in the United States!

The psychedelic cover art was created by Australian artist Martin Sharp, who lived in the same building as Clapton at the time of the Chelsea artists colony The Pheasantry.

At their first meeting in a London club, Clapton mentioned that he had some music that needed lyrics, so Sharp wrote out a poem he had composed on a napkin and gave it to Clapton, who recorded it as "Tales of Brave Ulysses"!

When interviewed on the episode of the VH1 show, Classic Albums, which featured Disraeli Gears, Bruce stated that when writing the song "Take it Back", he had been inspired by the contemporary media images of American students burning their draft cards and wrote the song in that spirit of rejecting militarism!

In 2004, the album was released as a 2-disc Deluxe edition including the complete album in both mono and stereo, demos, alternate takes and tracks taken from the band's live sessions on BBC radio!

The Vinyl

The vinyl lays perfectly flat on the turntable! This is the original 1st issue , heavier thicker type of vinyl with deeper grooves only found on these original 1st pressings! They are also more robust than later pressings which were more flimsier! In strong light there are surface marks/scratches/scuffs noted, a couple cause some interference as noted below. The audio clarity on the whole is absolutely clear and vibrant in my opinion and in spite of the interference noted this is truely a very enjoyable playable 1st issue copy!

The Audio Quality

I have played this through track for track as usual on a top system at very loud volume using a dedicated mono cartridge, On the whole the audio is very very vibrant being the earliest possible and in mono makes all the difference. There are two or three surface marks/scratches/scuff marks, on each side do have some effect and cause some isolated interference, static type ticks and three or four clicks I heard on tracks "strange Brew" on side 1 and on "SWLABR" on side 2. Any other interference is minor in the for of isolated tick or background crackle only. Over all I would grade the audio at least excellent in my personal opinion.

Just listen to the complete album for yourself in the player above and make your own mind up! In my opinion the vinyls audsio quality is very very enjoyable indeed!

Please note! I always make this disclaimer! Please allow for the odd light static/ crackle/ticks/clicks  perhapes heard in between tracks but (nothing too bad in my opinion and not consistant throughout the audio! It is noted as above that there are some isolated clicks or pops heard on a couple of tracks to mention. Please remember that this is a genuine 45 year old vinyl (not a reissue) that would have originally been played on a 45 year old system!

Please note! This has been stored in a case for at least 40 years! Any static crackle that might be heard during some quiet parts could be minimised by constant cleaning before each play in my experiance!, Build up of dust and dirt that has accumilated over the years from the vinyl being stored! laying dormant causes most of this problem so please allow for some light static crackle as  previously mentioned! I would class myself as highly critical ! Please look at my completed listings of records that I have sold of this calaber and you will see that I normally get it right!

The Labels

This features the original ((MONO)) LIGHTLY TEXTURED blue REACTION  labels. Features the withdrawn credits Dratleaf Ltd and Windfall Music on side 1. Apple Publishing on side 2. (Only Earliest 1st UK pressings) (no) nasty names or hand writing. Spidering can be seen angled to the light. This has been played but certainly has not been overplayed at all in my opinion! (very rare for a pressing of this age) ''made in England'' text is featured (this is a UK pressing) little if (no) spindleware the hole is perfectly round!  GENUINE 45 YEAR OLD 1st UK PRESSING!

The Record Sleeve

This is a plain white sleeve without splits or tares! Light creasing staining/fading with age only (see photos)

The cover

The condition of this 1ST ISSUE E.DAY & CO PRINTED cover is strong and straight! RAREST EVER FULLY LAMINATED COVER. (ONLY EARLIEST ISSUES)  Lovely and super glossy laminate , No real rubbing wear that I can see, noted slightly at the spine. Please note! There are minimal laminate thumb type creases to talk of at the front and rear not noticed unless looked for only in my opinion.  The writing on the spine can clearly be seen which is in absolutely superb condition! Please note this is the genuine 1st issue mono cover (features the mono catalogue number at the rear only found on 1st issues) (see photos)!  This is graded at better than excellent to excellent plus in my opinion! Very collectable very nice cover!
