This hard-hitting, funk-flavoured LP in the Conroy Recorded Music Library series dates from 1975 and features compositions by Library hot shots Sammy Burdson and Klaus Weiss.

Side one gets under way with Pop Waves - OPEN DRUMS .. aggressive, well-played funky beat, à la 'Funky Drummer', with intermittent phased cymbal overlay and occasional funky Hip Hop style stabs; fantastic. Track two, Cyclodrom, features a driving, funky wah wah guitar pattern with unusual, kind of back-to-front drum pattern, plus bass. Track three, Devils Drive, is a bit of an odd one - subtle wah wah, driving mid tempo bass and drums, but drums are overlaid with continuous rolling tom toms. Track four, Crime Ways, is a nice slice of oddball jazzy drama, featuring lazy brushed jazz drumming with an incongruously squelching synth bass. Track five, Is it Hip, is superb US cop show style drama funk .. a well-played, well-produced, steady, solid funky beat with repetitive, catchy top line riff of fuzz guitar mixed with Rhodes, underpinned by dirty, fat bass, plus playful cowbell and cuica (?) percussion .. the funky feel, good-natured riff and percussion touches put me in mind of Bob James .. either way it's great. Track six, The Camp, is faster, Rhodes-driven, mellow, summery jazz funk; lovely Rhodes chords, guitar soloing, exciting drums/bass, plus bongos (incl. excellent bongo 'solo'); wonderful stuff. Track seven, Tomorrow, is an intriguing, prog-oriented drama background piece - constant swelling cymbals and intermittent muffled toms, psych guitar twangs, simple bass notes, evocative Mellotron. Last up on side one is Rhythm Trip which is a little similar in format to 'The Camp'; after a tense intro it settles down into a lovely, jazzy, funky groove with plenty of Rhodes and mellow guitar soloing over solid rhythm section; excellent again.

Moving on to side two, Vox Pop has a solid, mid tempo, funky beat combined with vamping clavinet and simple bass; has a bit of a country funk feel - I could imagine a 'That's The Way It Is' period Elvis Presley singing over the top of it. Track two, Rock Pop, is energetic, piano dominated, boogie woogie rock 'n' roll style. Track three, Pop Phase, is entirely OPEN DRUMS - relaxed, mid tempo, funky, with congas; this recording seems to be just the drum/percussion track from another Conroy track because a trace of a bass line can be heard in the background - spill into the drum mics. Track four, Pop Twang, reprises the funky drums with clavinet format of 'Vox Pop' but has a moodier feel; sparse but nice. Track five, Canned Pop, starts with a tom roll which leads into another track of just FUNKY OPEN DRUMS (with congas); brisk, with twists and turns (presumably following the changes of the other track that this drum/percussion section was formerly part of); the congas have a metallic, flanger-like delay effect added to them, giving them a 'processed' feel (hence the title). Finally, to round off side two are seven percussion patterns - Percussion Take 1-7 - featuring shaker, cowbell, guiro, tambourine, bongos, timbales, triangle and so on; these have a raw, funky Latin (or sometimes Afro) feel; great for samples.
