A MINT OR VERY VERY NEAR MINT COPY OF THIS ULTRA RARE EARLY 78 FROM THE FAMOUS LONGINISA STUDIOS IN THE CONGO
REALLY HAPPY AFRICAN SOUNDS!!!
THIS ONE IS NOT ON THE LONGINISA LABEL BUT ON THE ULTRA RARE RED HMV "LON" SERIES!!
Adikwa was known for his guitar mastery. He is one of the most preeminent of the artists from the early Loningisa era. His songs generally were written as sketches with a plot. Essentially traditional songs that integrate authentic African folklore with Afro-Cuban sounds. His Guitar work was highly original for its use of Hawaiian guitar tuning mixed with soft and fast wooden rhythms, musically a very fresh and original style. He is accompannied by the "House band" the bana loningisa Rumba (a moving band of session players - "the rumba children of loningisa")
The Loningisa label was owned by Lingala speaking Greek owner Basile Papadimitriou who along with Belgium Sound Engineer Carlos Monsieur were responsible for capturing many marvelous sounds of Africa on their one room, one microphone, one track, tape recorder "studio" - Its amazing they sound so very very good even today!!
This is a wonderful and incredilbly rare record, and must rank among the greatest treasures of all African issues.
