COMPLETE Rutherford Record Set WARNING Watchtower Jehovah MA Howlett FOR LIBERTY

Here is an original COMPLETE SET of six records by Brother J. F. Rutherford for the HISTORIC talk entitled "Warning" produced by Watchtower in 1938. On the last record is a talk by M. A. Howlett entitled For Liberty. This is one of the VERY FEW records that were made that had someone other then Brother Rutherford on it.

These Rutherford records were played in the door-to-door ministry by Jehovah's Witnesses using portable phonographs. Usually you have to find these records one at a time, here is a chance to get a complete set!

These records will probably bring back a lot of good memorys to some old timers in the Truth!

These records are labeled:

P-125 WARNING (Part 1)P-127 WARNING (Part 3)

P-126 WARNING (Part 2)P-128 WARNING (Part 4)

P-129 WARNING (Part 5)P-131 WARNING (Part 7)

P-130 WARNING (Part 6)P-132 WARNING (Part 8)

P-133 WARNING (Part 9)P-135 WARNING (Part 11)

P-134 WARNING (Part 10)P-136 FOR LIBERTY (M. A. Howlett's talk)

Here is a little of what was said about this talk:

1995 Awake! 8/22 p. 9 The Evils of Nazism Exposed

Love of neighbor is what compelled the Witnesses to warn the people of Germany not to be fooled by the grandiose vision of a glorious thousand-year rule by the Third Reich. "We must tell the truth and give the warning," said the booklet Face the Facts, published in 1938. "We recognize the totalitarian government . . . as the product of Satan brought forth as the substitute for God’s kingdom." Jehovah’s Witnesses were among the first targets of Nazi abuse, but they also loudly decried atrocities against Jews, Poles, the handicapped, and others.

The resolution "Warning!," adopted at a 1938 convention of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Seattle, Washington, U.S.A., said: "The Fascists and Nazis, radical political organizations, have wrongfully seized control of many countries of Europe . . . All the people will be regimented, all their liberties taken away, and all will be compelled to yield to the rule of an arbitrary dictator and then the ancient Inquisition will be fully revived."

1955 Watchtower 8/15 p. 491 Part 16—Publishing Under a New Name, Theocratically

Australia became favored in the spring of 1938 with its first visit of a president of the Society. Jehovah’s witnesses there received Judge Rutherford with great enthusiasm. There in Sydney’s Sports Ground 25,000 eagerly listened to Rutherford’s famous lecture "Warning." This climaxed the Sydney convention, to which witnesses had come from every part of the South Pacific—Malaya, Java, French Indochina, Shanghai, New Zealand and all states of the Commonwealth of Australia.

Here is a little of what has been written about the history of using the phonograph in service:

1955 Watchtower 7/1 pp. 394-395 Part 13: Champions of Freedom of Speech and of Worship

Results of the non-radio sound service were so promising that, in 1934, the Society began to produce another service instrument, a portable phonograph, and to manufacture a series of 4 1/2-minute 78-rpm discs containing effective Bible lectures. At first this portable phonograph was used largely in the back-call service, but finally it came to be very widely used in the initial-call house-to-house service, being played on the doorsteps of the homes. Here indeed was a new preaching medium. It figured in a big way at the 1937 Columbus (Ohio) convention attended by 25,000 on Sunday, September 18, to hear Judge Rutherford deliver his important lecture “Safety,” which at the same time was broadcast by 135 radio stations. At this convention the historic decision was announced, that the Society was voluntarily withdrawing from all commercial radio broadcasting contracts after October 31, 1937. Instead, all of Jehovah’s witnesses would concentrate their time and funds on the more effective house-to-house work, using the portable phonograph with a wide range of more than ninety Bible lectures that would enable millions to hear and learn Bible truth. The phonograph work took on new force, as is demonstrated by the report for 1938 showing that there were 430,000 discs with lectures in sixteen languages in use on 19,600 sound machines. In 1937 there were reported 10,368,569 listeners, and for 1938, 13,070,426. Truly a literal mighty shout was being raised among all earth’s inhabitants!

------------

The records seem to be in NICE to VERY NICE condition without any major scratching and should play well. The labels may have a little ageing and wear. Please look at the pictures as they are part of the description. Record P-129/131 has a few small spots on it. The records come with five plain brown paper protective sleeves (one has some clear archival tape on it) but the first record of the set includes an original J. F. Rutherford protective sleeve!
