Face Value is the album that finally transformed Phil Collins from being best known as the Genesis drummer into a global solo phenomenon in his own right. The 1981 album folded in soul, art-pop and r&b into a personal work written around his divorce. The record's revolutionary "gated reverb" drum sound, which is most famously heard on the cold, dry, crashing drums of 'In the Air Tonight' would go on to define 80s production, while the Phenix Horns bring funk energy to 'I Missed Again' and an experimental Beatles cover shows off Collins' range. This deluxe 4LP "Full Value" box set expands the original into eight sides by adding a new Phil Collins interview, rare stripped-back Secret Policeman's Ball performances, unreleased live sets, and previously unheard versions of 'Tomorrow Never Knows' and 'Over The Rainbow. ' Essential for any Collins devotees, of which there are still very many.
