PLEASE READ BEFORE BIDDING: Please read the entire auction listing, including shipping costs, before writing to ask a question. OUR GOAL IS CUSTOMER SATISFACTION. In order to meet that goal, we will ALWAYS work with our customers on any concerns that may arise. In the unlikely instance that you feel the need to open a resolution dispute before working with us, you will immediately be blocked from any further chance to acquire the rare music we present each and every week. Payment is required within seven days. We mail all paid items ONE WEEK after auctions end. Please keep in mind our listings are time consuming in detail and we are often traveling to find these gems, which at times delays the delivery schedule by a day or two. We ALWAYS process and ship every paid order. We have no control over parcels once they are mailed from our local Post Office.Overseas mail to some countries (Italy, Russia, France, in particular) has become very slow. Opening a dispute for slow mail is unacceptable and will result in blocking the bidder. We work hard to provide excellent service as is represented by our 8000 plus positive feedback. We use a VPI machine and thoroughly clean all records. Each order is carefully packaged by removing the LP from the jacket to avoid seam splits, use of 3 ml plastic cover sleeves over each LP and jacket, cardboard pad inserts, and placed in sturdy record mailers for safe delivery. We take Customer Service seriously, and want you to be satisfied. Please give us 5 stars in each category through the feedback system, and we will be able to effectively continue to fulfill your passion for rare and collectible music! We have served thousands of satisfied customers - far more than our feedback records indicate - and our aim is to continue to do so. What's Shakin' did not dilly-dally around -- it is all electric rock.
ELEKTRA Records accumulated a bunch of intriguing unreleased rock recordings by artists who never made an album for the label, as well as some interesting never used tracks by artists who did. Rather than keep them locked up in a vault, Elektra generously made 14 of the 'rare' songs available to the public with the 1966 album: What's Shakin'. Every cut was by an artist of note - The Lovin' Spoonful were, in '66, the hottest group around. Also on board were Elektra's hottest group at the time, the Paul Butterfield Blues Band, as well three recordings by the British supergroup POWERHOUSE with Eric Clapton, Jack Bruce, Stevie Winwood, and lead Manfred Mann singer Paul Jones... all said, you get an LP of truly interesting never released material. All the tracks on "What's Shakin' do not sound like rejected tunes, not at all, infact they could have all easily been strong cuts on Lp's of the day....
The Paul Butterfield Blues Band were prominently featured with five tracks, all of which, as Holzman notes, date from around the time they recorded their debut album. The four Lovin' Spoonful tracks on What's Shakin' -- never to be released - anywhere - in this form or as re-recorded versions, on subsequent releases by the band -- also took a circuitous route to commercial availability. The group had come close to signing with Elektra in early 1965, although they ultimately decided to go with Kama Sutra. The four cuts that made it onto What's Shakin' are, a little surprisingly, more 'rock' than folk-rock which they were known for.
Clapton and Winwood's POWERHOUSE were not known in the United States when What's Shakin' came out. Cream had only just formed and had yet to put out a record; Clapton had not toured in the United States; his pre-Cream band, John Mayall's Bluesbreakers, were virtually unknown in America; and he'd left his pre-Mayall band, the Yardbirds, before they'd chalked up their first hit. As for Winwood, while the Spencer Davis Group were already huge in Britain, they wouldn't have their first significant Stateside hit until early 1967. Still, they clearly influenced TEN YEARS AFTER on this album, as Ten Years After's first album was released a year later (in '67) with eerily a similar sound...
