Description
Later a pivotal force in the great Moving Hearts and Planxty, this is Christy Moore's very first and INCREDIBLY RARE LP for Mercury from 1969, 'Paddy On The Road', 20170 SMCL. Very, very difficult to find this LP, it rarely comes up for sale. Here's how Christy Moore remembers his first LP:
Around ’69 I was becoming desperate to make an album. To be a “Recording Artist” was essential if I was to break into the Premier Division of the folk circuit. I was doing well but there was still a way to go. I auditioned unsuccessfully for ‘Transatlantic’, which was the most desirable folk label of the era featuring the likes of Pentangle, Ralph McTell and Hamish Imlach. Subsequently I recorded my first album ‘Paddy On The Road’ with Dominic Behan in Sound Techniques, Chelsea.
I can still savor the feeling of getting that first LP into my hand. I could not quite believe it. I went to Noel Murphy’s pad in Shepherd’s Bush and we listened, me in awe and he being kind and encouraging. 500 were pressed and then it was deleted.

Fully laminated sleeve is at the very least EX minus with a few spine and edge creases, a light corner crease top left and a little edge and corner scuffing. There is also extremely light writing indentation on the front - looks as though someone has written a short letter on paper resting on the cover, as well as one word indented on the back ('tolerant'). These are really only visible under strong light and are very minor gripes on such a rare record. The sleeve is completely structurally sound and all laminate intact, no lifting.
The vinyl is also an outstanding EX minus. There are some very light hairline marks on both sides, some of which cause the odd pop or click, but this LP plays exceptionally well with no crackle or static and no jumps or skips. It retains its deep glossy shine and the labels are unworn except for some spindle markings. I am absolutely thorough in grading the vinyl I sell, so please be assured that this grading is accurate. Please check my feedback comments for reassurance.
This is a great opportunity to acquire an astonishingly rare LP by possibly the greatest Irish singer/songwriter of this or the last century. Low starting price with a reasonable reserve, given the RC mint book value of this LP.
Playgraded on a Thorens TD 125 II with SME 3009 arm and Shure V15 cart.
