RARE 1974 original PRIVATE PRESS by underground rock hipster Chris Robison ...in  career covered a lot of territory. This spanned from being in the touring band Steam, in the band Elephant's Memory, recorded the famous album as member of the Velvert Turner Group and , recording with Keith Richards, John Phillips, Link Wray and John Lennon just to name a few...

"MANCHILD" is a dazzling feat of daring rocker music. But Chris Robison is not just a pioneering street rocker from New York City,  he is an all-pervasive presence in New York rock from the late 60's onwards, having played with all the heavies from the East Coast scene; including New York Dolls, and Bob Dylan. Not only that, MANCHILD is a totally freewheeling and unique album, coalescing all the sensory overload of downtown New York City life in the early 70's. It touches on folk, psychedelia edges and hardrock rock, and more, all filtered through Robison's sly and cheeky personality. Recorded almost totally by Chris himself late at night at the cut rate studio "All Nite Cat Pound" ... MANCHILD is one of the few remaining undiscovered classics from the era. As friend Angie Bowie (Davids wife) says, 'Manchild' is a musical history of alternative sexualities... Chris' bisexual stance and pretty pout invigorated rock'n'roll.' More than thirty-five years later, it's difficult to appreciate how daring and how groundbreaking songs like Looking For A Boy Tonight and Italian Boy were at the time of their release. The album's back cover is filled with rare photos that reflect the direction. Chris talks of Rca Records turning him down because they didn't want another 'Lou Reed' or 'David Bowie' on their roster...Robison had a surprisingly impressive and versatile voice and as a multi-instrumentalist he was more than adequate on everything from bass to drums. So what did the overall results sound like? Robison's lifestyle obviously impacted his music which offered up an intriguing mixture of musical styles and lyrics that were intriguing and disturbing at the same time ... Jim Carrol, Tom Waits and others would have approved of this album showcasing the lives of life's downtrodden and also-rans in a big city street rocker stance.

The 'Manchild' album has been spotted selling for $250+ in collector circles...
