Chris Clark - who - in addition to being (or probably precisely because she was) a beautiful woman, was Barry Gordy's one-time…um…confidante - never really fit the rest of the Motown roster and stuck out like a sore thumb. In many ways, she was a black sheep (on second though, make that: white sheep) in a predominantly black Motown roster. Her blend of pop, soul and jazz never quite took off and was considerably different - in many ways better - from Motown was doing at the time. There are some real gems on this album, and we dare call this one of our favorite blue-eyed psychedelic soul albums ever. Incredibly hard to find - probably because the album did not sell well to begin with and was quickly discontinued

Sporting one of the most morbid, demented inner gatefold artworks in the history of recorded music (Chris Clarke surrounded by various ghouls, wax figures, macabre images, gargoyles, disfigured dolls, Chris’ corpse sitting in an armchairs at the bottom of the pool and alike); one has to wonder if Chris Clark wasn’t a Satanic-Cult-member, or a member of Charles Manson’s “Family” or Anton LaVey’s Church of Satan around the time this album came out. Luckily for us, the music on this album is totally detached from these infernal images and devoid of morbid connotations.

(IMPORTANT NOTE: unless otherwise noted below, ALL records are graded visually, and NOT play-graded!; we grade records under the normal room light or discrete sunlight)

(a)            WE GRADE THE RECORD AS EXCELLENT. This is one of those albums that are somewhat difficult to grade. It is somewhere between VG++ and NEAR MINT, just a notch below NEAR MINT. A few light abrasions ARE visible, but they are extremely shallow, superficial and only moderately visually distracting (nothing significant).For the most part, the vinyl looks impeccable without any MAJOR visual flaws or imperfections. Much of the original luster is intact, and the vinyl shines and sparkles almost like new.

(b)            The record comes in its original stock inner sleeve, which the label was using for their titles around the time this album came out.

(c)             The record has a "deep groove" (an indent in the label about 1/2-inch from the perimeter of the label, which on SOME labels is associated with very early or first pressings)

(d)            The record is apparently pressed on a beautiful, thick, inflexible vinyl, which was usually used for the very first pressings. Usually, the sound on such thick vinyl pressings is full-bodied, exceedingly vivid, and even dramatic. Do not expect to obtain such a majestic analog sound from your compact disc!

(e)             PLEASE NOTE: This - of course - is an ANALOG recording, and not an inferior, digital recording!!!

·       COVER

THE COVER IS NICE --- ABOUT VERY GOOD++.

The following flaws or imperfections are noted on the cover:

-         Cover has some fraying/wear along the upper seam

-         Gatefold cover has partially split seams on 2 out of 4 "legs" of the cover (2 and 3 inches / 5 and 7.5 cm, respectively)

-         Cover has some ring wear (nothing significant)

-         Cover has a small cutout corner visible

-         Cover shows some light yellowing on back side, apparently from aging.

-         Cover has a few tiny wrinkles along the spine.

NO OTHER IMPERFECTIONS ON THE COVER:

-         No ring wear

-         No cut-out holes

-         No drill marks or indents

-         No dirt or dust spots

-         No stains

-         No writing

-         No mold or mildew spots

-         No stickers or labels

-         No water damage

-         No razor marks

-         No pressure marks, lines, streaks, or razor cuts.

-         No stamps

-         No warping

-         No glue traces or wax residue.

-         No bar codes

-         No RIAA stamps or stickers.

-         No peel-off marks
