Don Cherry made many inspired, impossible-to-pigeonhole albums in his time, though few are quite as unusual - in the best possible way -as his previously unissued 1968 recording The Summer House Sessions. Recently re-discovered in the Swedish Jazz Archive, the recording featured the legendary trumpeter jamming with jazz players from umpteen Swedish bands and a Turkish percussionist. The resultant recording, which is split in two on this vinyl version, is an inspired, otherworldly mixture of improvised free-jazz jazz, Middle Eastern rhythms, intoxicating Indian style ragas, plentiful special effects and tons of heady spirituality. It's extremely hard to pigeonhole, undeniably psychedelic and genuinely brilliant.
