Coming off the Dream Police tour, Cheap Trick filled the void with the release of a four song EP entitled Found All the Parts, while the group hit the studio with legendary producer George Martin to cut songs for their fifth studio LP. Recorded in the tropical paradise of Montserrat, at AIR Studios, All Shook Up shakes loose ten tightly-wound numbers, once again showcasing whacky guitarist Rick Nielsen’s furious fretboard work, Bun E. Carlos’ no-frills work from behind the kit and the golden pipes of rock idol Robin Zander. 

Originally issued to usher in the ‘80s, an expanded version of All Shook Up was marketed in 2006, which adds the four songs from Found All the Parts, as well as the chaotic “Everything Works If You let It”.

The All Shook Up power pop and rock offering from the high priests of Midwestern rhythmic noise opens with the infectious “Stop This Game”, in which Zander immediately garners the spotlight with a stellar performance from behind the mic. Carlos sets the vibe for the raucous “Just Got Back”, and C.T. blow out a retro shot of rock via “Baby Loves to Rock”.

The melodic “Can’t Stop It But I’m Gonna Try” is three-minutes-plus of pure Cheap Trick gold. Martin’s influence shines through on “World’s Greatest Lover”, as the Rockford group channel the fab four. Always at the ready with a humorous bend, the Tricksters lock-in on “I Love You Honey But I Hate Your Friends”, a song every red-blooded male can relate to. The tribal “Who D’King” closes out All Shook Up in quick fashion which gives way to the bonus material.

Previously unavailable in the compact disc format, the addition of the songs from Found All the Parts bolsters the Epic/Legacy release of All Shook Up. A live cover of “Day Tripper”, recorded in Chicago, as well as the bluesy “Can’t Hold On”, standout from the EP recording.

(a)          WE GRADE THE VINYL  AS  NEAR MINT. Some VERY LIGHT AND SUPERFICIAL abrasions – mostly sleeve scuffs -  are (barely) visible, but are probably inaudible,  and do not affect visual integrity or beauty of the vinyl. The original luster is very much intact, and the vinyl shines and sparkles almost like new.

(b)          The record comes in its original, custom, inner sleeve, which is UNIQUE to this album.

(c)           The record is pressed on a RELATIVELY  thick, inflexible vinyl. This is NOT a thin, flimsy ('dynaflex' type),  vinyl, but not the thickest, most rigid vinyl, either.

(d)          White Promo Label version of this title is much rarer that a regular, commercially released, version of this title. We estimate that stock copies of this album outnumber promo copies by a ratio of at least 40:1.

(e)           Of course, this is a full-bodied ANALOG recording, and not an inferior, digital recording!!!
