DESCRIPTION: Limited to 1,500 foil-stamped, numbered copies. Charlie Rouse was a key game-changer to the world of jazz; in a style that was historically known for its “front to back” movement, Rouse’s manner was more like the Latin and Caribbean “side-to-side” feel. He took rhythmic and harmonic elements of samba and paired them with Afro-Carribean modes, and once combined with jazz structures, created a totally unique sound. Bossa Nova Bacchanal is the result of Rouse’s fearless experimentation with genre and mastery over his saxophone. For those who aren’t super familiar with Rouse’s repertoire, he had an additional laundry list of collaborations and features: he was in Thelonious Monk’s Quartet, worked with the first Dizzy Gillespie big band, Duke Ellington’s Orchestra, and co-led Jazz Modes with Julius Watkins, among many others.
