CHARLIE PARKER Bud Powell COLEMAN HAWKINS Norman Granz SIGNED "JAZZ SCENE" Box
SEE OUR OTHER RARE RECORDS AND MUSIC MEMORABILIA
We're proud to offer here a very clean copy of “The Jazz Scene,” the limited edition 1949 “album” compiled by Norman Granz. Jazz record producer, promoter and label owner Granz put this lavish set together “in an attempt to present today’s jazz scene in terms of the visual, the written word and the auditory,” according to his essay in the liner notes. Downbeat Magazine called this "probably the most remarkable record album ever issued." Bound like a book in gold stamped cloth boards, the set includes six 12” 78 RPM discs, featuring original tracks by Duke Ellington, Neil Hefti, Lester Young, Coleman Hawkins, Charlie Parker, Willie Smith, Machito, Bud Powell, George Hardy, and Ralph Burns. An essay by Granz accompanies each disc. There are 30 high quality photographs, most by noted photographer Gjon Mili; each is printed on it’s own 12” x 12 ¾” sheet. The subjects include Duke Ellington, Billy Strayhorn, Lester Young, Buddy Rich, Coleman Hawkins, Charlie Parker, Machito, Max Roach with Bud Powell, Louis Armstrong with Roy Eldridge, Lester Young with Dickie Wells, Ella Fitzgerald, Gene Krupa, Teddy Wilson with Benny Goodman, Stan Kenton, Count Basie, Art Tatum, Sarah Vaughn, Dizzy Gillespie with Duke Ellington, and Billie Holliday. The title page is numbered 2072 of 5000 and signed by Granz, opposite a fold out image by legendary jazz illustrator David Stone Martin. The cover is in near excellent condition, with some light rubbing. The pages are in excellent condition overall, and each disc is VG++ or better. A unique and deluxe presentation. Note: This is a heavy and because of the 78 discs, fragile item; it will be shipped at cost; the shipping costs here are estimates. We grade all records visually, cover first, then disc; using the abbreviations M / NM / EX / VG with + and -. We try to describe everything as accurately as possible, and spot check any vinyl flaw that looks like it might make a sound.
We regularly receive praise for our grading, but as all grading is subjective, we are happy to give a full refund for anything you aren’t happy with—no questions asked.

We welcome International buyers and ship around the world every week.
US & Canada Shipping: $9 for 1-2 LP's by insured Priority Mail (Ebay’s recent rule change requires us to offer Media Mail shipping for records, at $4.00 for 1 LP. As this is a very slow method of shipping and uninsured, we cannot guarantee safe delivery by this method and strongly recommend paying extra for the much quicker and safer Priority Mail.) $15 for 1-2 posters, shipped priority mail in a new mailer/tube & US orders are automatically insured for up to $200 in value. Calif. buyers add 8.25% sales tax (calculated automatically by Paypal.) All other items shipped at cost.
International Shipping: $16 for 1 LP airmail without insurance. $4 for each additional LP; $21 for 1-2 posters. All other items shipped at cost. Because of problems with the Italian Post Office, we highly recommend either insured or registered mail for all Italian orders and cannot be responsible for any order shipped to Italy without one or the other of these.
