Enrico Caruso (/k??ru?zo?/,[1] also US: /k??ru?so?/,[2][3][4] Italian: [en?ri?ko ka?ru?zo]; 25 February 1873 – 2 August 1921) was an Italian operatic tenor. He sang to great acclaim at the major opera houses of Europe and the Americas, appearing in a wide variety of roles (74) from the Italian and French repertoires that ranged from the lyric to the dramatic. One of the first major singing talents to be commercially recorded, Caruso made 247 commercially released recordings from 1902 to 1920,[5] which made him an international popular entertainment star.
Don Pasquale (Italian pronunciation: [?d?m pa?skwa?le]) is an opera buffa, or comic opera, in three acts by Gaetano Donizetti with an Italian libretto completed largely by Giovanni Ruffini as well as the composer. It was based on a libretto by Angelo Anelli for Stefano Pavesi's opera Ser Marcantonio written in 1810[1] but, on the published libretto, the author appears as "M.A."
Donizetti so dominated the preparation of the libretto that Ruffini refused to allow his name to be put on the score. This resulted in confusion over the identity of the librettist for more than half a century,[2] but as Herbert Weinstock establishes, it was largely Ruffini's work and, in withholding his name from it as librettist, "Donizetti or [his assistant] Accursi may have thought that, lacking Ruffini's name, the authorship might as well be assigned to Accursi's initials as to a pseudonym".[3]
The opera was first performed on 3 January 1843 by the Théâtre-Italien at the Salle Ventadour in Paris with great success[4] and it is generally regarded as being the high point of the 19th century opera buffa tradition and, in fact, marking its ending.

***CAVEAT FOR PURCHASERS OF 78 RPM RECORDS FROM BARRY'S BARGAIN BIN*** The 78 rpm records offered here have accumulated from older relatives of mine. I am not familiar with most of the recordings and the information offered has been culled from my research on the internet (and may have factual discrepancies). For those who are not recording cognoscenti (including myself), be aware of certain details: (1) These records are very old--always FIFTY to ONE HUNDRED years or more; (2) As such, the recording quality is never more than acceptable--especially in comparison to Hi-Fi, Stereo, and Digital recordings. These are always noisy, with clicks, pops, scratches, etc.; (3) I have not played these records before offering them for sale. They are offered as COLLECTIBLE items. (4) Hence, NO RETURNS WILL BE ACCEPTED--FOR ANY REASON! I have been informed that major shipping companies--UPS, FEDEX, et al.--are prepared to handle these items and guarantee success in delivering them. The approximate cost to ship one record in the US is $25 (with minor variations concernings zip codes) in addition to Amazon's minuscule shipping charge.
