Carson Robison mysteriously never achieved the fame and recognition that his contemporaries did. Recording with Vernon Dalhart, a western singer like Gene Autry and Roy Rogers or the C&W hitmaker of the 1940s and finally a country rocker in 1956, Robison played nearly every country style in country music's first three decades. He was born in 1890 in Oswego, Kansas, and already made his living as a musician by the age of 15. He moved to Kansas City in 1920, where he appeared as a vaudeville entertainer. After moving to New York City in 1924, he teamed up with Vernon Dalhart and had a very succesful time during the 1920s with Dalhart and also solo, recording numerous old-time songs. The 1930s saw him visit Great Britain and in 1942, he finally had his first country hit with "Turkey in the Straw". Hits like "Remember Pear Harbor" or "Life Gits Tee-Jus, Don't It?" followed. During the late 40s and early 50s, he was a member of the Grand Ole Opry. One of his last, more famous songs today is the country rock & roll novelty "Rockin' and Rollin' with Grandmaw" for MGM. He died one year later.
