The harbinger of what became the mellow singer-songwriter movement, Carole King’s Tapestry is sublime art, a recording of graceful intimacy, confessional purpose, relaxed warmth, and soothing melody. Seemingly flawless, the 1971 world-beater is the rare kind of record that’s handed on to generations and resonates with undiminished returns.    A winner of four Grammy awards, and recipient of the rare diamond award for ten-times platinum sales, Tapestry resonates with humanity and authenticity. King burrows into the core of each note she sings, bringing out an affecting spectrum of hope, sadness, joy, melancholy, and longing. Every single track is a classic. King scored four Top 15 hits from the album herself, while, a year later, Barbra Streisand landed a hit with a cover of "Where You Lead." It's no wonder nearly every consequential female artist of the past several decades has cited Tapestry's influence.
Many versions have come and gone, but this audiophile-vetted edition—mastered from the original analog tapes by Bernie Grundman at cut at 45RPM—justifies why you own a turntable. The crystal clarity, lifelike presence, and enviable warmth this pressing conveys will make you fall in love with this timeless, generation-crossing favorite again and again. If only all LPs sounded this good.
