Carlos - Sings Jamaica's Greatest Hits (Florida, Piscis `69?) Cover: VG++ (some seam wear but no splits) Disc: VG++ (light scuffs, vinyl not the best quality - track 6 side B plays with some recurring noise from the pressing.
Well...where to begin with this oddity? I believe that Carlos Granados was a Latin (Cuban?) singer based in Florida who went to Jamaica in 1969 to voice himself over the latest reggae hits, singing the original lyrics over the original rhythm tracks, most of which came from Treasure Isle. And so we get Carlos taking stabs at I Can't Hide by Ken Parker, Drink Milk by Justin Hinds, even You Were to Be by the Gladiators! He also got ahold of the original Studio 1 music track for Bob Andy's rendition of Games people Play. I'll leave it to you to decide whether his version trumps Mr. Anderson's. He does Hold Me Tight, but over a different rock steady track from Johnny Nash's. He sings Marley's Nice Time, but over a calypso/reggae track that sounds like it's also from Treasure Isle. There are also a couple of ballads and a mento (Mr. Walker,) but most of this is `69-era reggae with Carlos' own, er, unique vocalizations. Listen to the sound clip, which plays samples of several tracks. Definitely listen to the sound clip before you buy. Ahem.
