American pop queen Belinda Carlisle returns to her Californian roots on her newest album, which is a heartfelt collection of ten studio-recorded covers celebrating the music that shaped her youth. From a stirring remake of Bacharach & David's 'Anyone Who Had a Heart' to tributes to the Carpenters' 'Superstar,' Gordon Lightfoot, Jim Croce and Harry Nilsson, Once Upon a Time in California overflows with vintage pop charm while offering a fresh perspective for a new generation. These songs were recorded in Los Angeles and reflect Carlisle's personal journey through golden-era sounds, all while proving she still has a great set of pipes.
