This is the 1961 re-release of the Carl Perkins Sun Dance Album. This album is arguably one of the greatest rock albums ever released. The Beatles recorded EVERY SINGLE song on this album.

Blue Suede Shoes---on Beatles Anthology 3, Live Peace in Toronto, 1969, by John Lennon and Eric Clapton, Lost Lennon Tapes, Paul McCartney version, George Harrison and Ringo Starr version on Perkins HBO special.

Honey Don't---Beatles 65, Beatles For Sale, Beatles 4 x 4 EP, Concert for George, Ringo Starr All-Star Band album, Lost Lennon Tapes.

Matchbox---1964 Beatles 45, Beatles at the BBC, Beatles at the Star Club, Beatles Past masters Vol. 1, Tripping the Live Fantastic, Lost Lennon Tapes

Everybody's Trying to Be My Baby---Beatles 65, For Sale, Anthology 2, Shea Stadium Concert film, 1966.

Movie Magg---Run Devil Run album by Paul McCartney.

Tennessee---Let it Be sessions, 1969.

Gone Gone Gone---Lost Lennon Tapes

Sure to Fall---Let it Be sessions, Ringo Starr Stop and Smell Roses album, 1981, Ringo Starr Greatest Hits Vol. 2.

Only You---influenced Ringo Starr/John Lennon Version of the 1970s

Right String, Wrong Yo Yo---Let it Be sessions.

Your True Love---unreleased Beatles version.

Boppin the Blues---"bop cat bop" verse in Beatles' For You Blue.

You get the picture? This album is priceless just for the original version of Blue Suede Shoes and the B-side Honey Don't. Everything else is gravy. This is the greatest rock album of the 1950s. The Beatles would certainly agree.

This is a very very influential album. Jerry Lee Lewis is on two cuts, playing rocking piano.

***

Among the great early rock & roll albums, Dance Album, Carl Perkins' first LP for Sun (RETITLED TO 'TEEN BEAT' FOR THIS 1961 RELEASE, but otherwise bearing the same label, same catalog number and same matrix number) tends to get the short end of the stick. There's a reason for that. Sam Phillips rushed the album out after Perkins left Sun for Columbia in 1958, which was two years after "Blue Suede Shoes" was a hit, so Perkins not only didn't have a big single in the charts -- "Pink Pedal Pushers," his last for Sun, stalled at 91 on the pop charts -- but the label released it more as a cash-in than anything, and it never made much of an impact on the charts. These details fade into the past as the years go by, and what stands is the album itself, which is as good as rock & roll gets. First and foremost, the disc is a virtual greatest-hits album, containing most of Perkins' anthems: "Blue Suede Shoes," "Movie Magg," "Gone, Gone, Gone," "Honey Don't," "Everybody's Trying to Be My Baby," "Matchbox," "Boppin' the Blues," and "All Mama's Children." That's over half the album, and that's almost all of his big tunes, outside of "Put Your Cat Clothes On" and "Pink Pedal Pushers," which were added to Varese's superb expanded 2004 reissue, leaving just "Dixie Fried," "Lend Me Your Comb," and "Glad All Over" as missing hits. That's not bad for a greatest-hits album, but Dance Album is a hits album only in retrospect, after those tunes became standards. Combined, these tracks provided some of the toughest, rawest rockabilly, powered by Perkins' dynamic, gutsy guitar and earnest voice. Much of the rest of the record cruises by at the same speed -- the two-step tribute "Tennessee," the bopping "Your True Love," the speedy rockabilly blues cover "Right String, Wrong Yo Yo" -- slowing down for the pure country of "Sure to Fall" and a version of the Platters' "Only You" that turns it down-home. These may be the only two changes of pace, either in tempo or in style, but they give the album both range and a little bit of breathing room. But what really makes Dance Album a classic is that pure, hard-charging rockabilly that captures the genius of Perkins and is every bit as raw, energetic, and rocking decades after its release as it was at the time.

·                               CONDITION:

·                               RECORD

(IMPORTANT NOTE: unless otherwise noted, ALL records are graded visually, and NOT play-graded!; we  grade records under the strong, diffuse room light or discrete sunlight)

(a)          WE GRADE THE VINYL AS STRONG VERY GOOD+ . CAUTION: The vinyl is NOT MINT or NEAR MINT, but is nevertheless in a very nice and clean condition. There are some surface marks and abrasions, mostly light and superficial, although some may be longer than 1.1/4 inches (1 inch = 2.5 centimeters)   [note: minor heat discoloration (haze)  noted on the lip (intro groove) of the disc; this affects only a very minor, negligible - practically none - part of the groove area]

(b)          The record is apparently pressed on a beautiful, thick, inflexible vinyl, which was usually used for the first or very early pressings. Usually, the sound on such thick vinyl pressings is full-bodied, vivid, and even dramatic. Do not expect to obtain such a majestic analog sound from a digital recording!

(c)           The record has a "deep groove" (an indent in the label about 1/2-inch from the edge of the label, which on SOME labels is associated with very early or first pressings).

(d)          True Stereo copies of this album are NOT known to exist.

(e)           Of course, this is a full-bodied ANALOG recording, and not an inferior, digital recording!!!

(f)              Important disclosure: VISUALLY, THE RECORD is STRONG VERY GOOD+. HOWEVER, WE CAUTION THAT A SMALL, BUT ANNOYING SURFACE SCRATCH (roughly 1/8 square inch in size;  an uneven spot on the surface of one track:  'Gone, Gone, Gone'' may cause a few light clicks or pops here and there) .

·       COVER

THE COVER IS ABOUT VERY GOOD+ (VG+)

The following flaws or imperfections are noted on the cover:

-        Cover has a partially split top seam (between 2 and 4 inches  / 5 to 10 centimeters); This split seam was delicately taped by the previous owner with a piece of transparent scotch tape

-         Cover has a completely  split bottom seam . This split seam was delicately taped by the previous owner with a piece of transparent scotch tape

-         Cover has some visible fraying/tattering on all three seams

-         Cover has some fraying/wear along the top and bottom seams

-         Cover has some light ring wear (nothing significant); On the scale from 1 to 10 (1 being the least, and  10 being the most severe), we assess the severity of ring wear as 3  (front side) and 4 (back side)

-         Back cover has a few yellowish dust speckles scattered here and there (these tiny spots are not overly obtrusive or distracting)

-         Cover shows some light yellowing on back side, apparently from aging  (nothing significant).

-         Cover has a few tiny wrinkles along the spine

-         Cover has all four corners slightly worn / dinged / bent. (nothing significant)

-         Minor, barely visible, water stain noted in one corner (less than 1 square inch in size)(

NO OTHER IMPERFECTIONS ON THE COVER:
