1979 great sounding reissue of this 1968 classic.
Featuring their smash "Going Up The Country" this actually made it into the US top 20 album charts.
Featured is the "classic" Heat lineup of Alan "Blind Owl" Wilson (guitar/vocals), Larry "The Mole" Taylor (bass), Henry "Sunflower" Vestine (guitar), Adolfo "Fido" de la Parra (drums), and Bob "The Bear" Hite (vocals), with a batch of strong originals and engaging overhauls of a few blues staples — including the solid cover of Charley Patton's "Pony Blues" that kicks things off. Right out of the gate, the formidable guitar team of Wilson and Vestine explore their musical passions with a focused drive, Taylor & de la Parra are one of the best blues rhythm sections evar and Bob Hit is right at the top of the tree of Blues singers. One of the primary factors in the package's commercial success was their update of Henry Thomas' "Bulldoze Blues" which they turned into the breezy "Goin' Up the Country." The band are joined by one of their contemporaries, British bluesman John Mayall who contributes piano to Jimmy Rogers'"Walking By Myself" - this track also shows that Al Wilson was one of the best harmonica players - ever! Mayall also tosses around the '88s in Cripple Clarence Lofton style behind Hite during the "Bear Wires" movement of the side-long "Parthenogenesis" suite. Pony Blues, One Kind Favour, Sandy's Blues,& My Mistake are all up their with The Heat's best and the live Refried Boogie Parts 1 & 2 shows just what great musicians they were. Living the Blues stands as a testament to Canned Heat's prowess as modernizers of the blues.
