Built to Spill – Live 2xLP (Up Records, 2000)

            Here’s Built to Spill’s only official live album released on 2 LPs by Up Records in 2000. This is now long out of print. The live songs were recorded at shows in Seattle and New York City during 1999, while touring for Keep it Like a Secret. Tracks include highlights from Keep it Like a Secret and Perfect from Now On. The highlight here is a 20+ minute extended jam on Neil Young’s “Cortez the Killer.”

This LP also includes two studio tracks not on the CD that I don’t believe were released anywhere else: “Forget Remember When” and “Now & Then.”

            I imagine this LP is in about as good a condition as you’ll find it. I ordered mine directly from Up in 2001 and have handled it with care, as I have all my records. That being said, the LPs themselves do not look “mint.” They have some scuffs, and the labels are even a bubbled. At the very least, the copy I received from the label was never what true collectors would call “mint,” and perhaps all of this, the only pressing of the album, were slightly flawed to begin with. That being said, I have listened to this all the way through, and there are no skips or loud pops even though the vinyl doesn’t look all that pretty. The jacket is certainly in near mint condition, with the only visible “flaw” the slightly dinged upper-left-hand corner.

Grading Policies and General Remarks on Vinyl Condition:

I do not own a record store and I don't read Goldmine. I'm not going to try to be an expert on grading. Too often when I buy on eBay, people rate items as "Very Good" that I think are ready for the trash.

I do however take care of my records. Most of them were purchased new from independent stores or distros, and I have stored each in a plastic sleeve to ensure that each record remains in about the same condition. Occasionally, I receive a new record from the label or distro with a small seam split or a bent corner. If that's the case, I'll let you know. If it's used, I'll describe whatever visible flaws I see. If I don't describe a particular item, assume that it is in "like New" condition. Whether or not that makes it M, M-, or NM, doesn't mean much to me.

Shipping:

I walk by the post office on a daily basis, so your item will typically be in the mail within 24 hours, but occasionally it will take 48. I ask in turn that you pay promptly. If, after 3 days, I have not received paypal payment or been notified by you, I will start the process of reporting you as a non-paying bidder and relist the item.

It’s quite difficult to capture with a camera the scuffs I mentioned above, but this is what I was talking about when referring to the “bubbling” of the label.
