One of the very finest Mobile Fidelity issues ever released, this is the definitive Elgar collection from Sir Adrian Boult, that, in effect, becomes a stunning EMI demonstration of how to capture an orchestra.
The pieces included are FALSTAFF Symphonic Study, FANTASIA AND FUGUE IN C MINOR, and the Ballet THE SANGUINE FAN, all captured with such air and defined space, it is hard to listen without your jaw completely dropped.
Fact is, as was discovered in Canada and verified by audiophiles in Europe and the U.S., this is one of those utterly fine recordings that fares better, if you switch the phase in your system. (Just switch the speaker cables around, making plus minus and minus plus in both cases.)
Mastered by Stan Ricker, cut with the state-of-the-art Ortofon system, I dare say, it doesn’t get any better than this, mint, factory sealed.
Worthy of a top ten position in any audiophile library.
FINAL LISTENING NOTE:
I have never played this set of records for any audiophile anywhere, who didn’t do the very same thing upon hearing such realism in my listening room:
