SUPER-LIMITED VINYL EDITION* Southern Lord have been building up their fanbase over the last few years and with Sunn o)))’s Steven O’Malley at the helm it seems they are set for total world domination...soon. Hardly surprising, then, that they have set their sights on snapping up the cream of the drone/sludge/doom whatever scene and have bagged Japan’s finest exports Boris for their ever impressive roster. 'Pink', as the name suggests, is not quite as viscous as it’s sludge infected predecessor, but don’t let that put you off – Boris have made a very fluid transition and the result is something which sounds like it could become regarded a classic metal album. Beginning with the almost shoegazing epic ‘Farewell’, all reverse effects and thick reverberating guitar, you would be forgiven for thinking Boris had gone a bit soft, but then the title track kicks straight in like a knee in the groin and supplies you with enough spit, venom and heavy riffing to keep you happy until next September. A handful more jumpy micro-metal classics and we’re at the end, and quite lovingly Boris have included a final 18 minute piece which finds the band back at their distorted droning best. A marvellous triumph for an act often in the shadow of their fellow Southern Lord-ers, good work Boris.
