ALBUM SIGNIFICANCE
Components is split evenly between two composers: side one is written by Hutcherson, side two by drummer Joe Chambers, an unusual arrangement that gives the record two distinct musical voices under one leader's name. The band is stacked with future stars just as their careers were taking off: Herbie Hancock on piano, Freddie Hubbard on trumpet, Ron Carter on bass, and James Spaulding on alto sax and flute. Recorded on June 14, 1965, this is an original 1966 first pressing, identified by the VAN GELDER stamp in the runouts and the blue-and-white "Blue Note Records • New York USA" labels used prior to the Liberty transition.
All albums are professionally cleaned and shipped with a new inner sleeve and protective outer jacket to ensure long-term preservation.
