Bobby Gentry - The Delta Sweete 1968 Capitol Early UK MONO LP EX/EX VERY RARE
Originally released in 1968
This is an Extremely Rare Early Pressing of a 1968 UK MONO Release
Condition:
LP: EX
Sleeve: EX
COVER:
The front cover is in Excellent (EX) Condition with no scuffs or marks and no rubbing on the corners. It has some slight few creases around the edges, and a minor crease at 2 o'clock in the top corner. It has a minor scuff (less than 1 cm long) at the top right edge as you can see in the photo and has some very light ring wear, as you may see on the photo. All the minor creases and a 2 o'clock crease are visible only at an angle, hence the cover is in great condition overall.
The Back Cover is in Excellent (EX) condition. There is a no rubbing on the corners, it is very clean with no tears or writing. It shows very minor signs of age - it is 50 years old! - visible in the photo, which puts it firmly in EX category.
The spine is strong, hasn't flattened and is in excellent condition with all text clear.
The original inner sleeve with then current releases is in excellent condition.
RECORD:
Side 1 is in Excellent- (EX) Condition, looks brand new, with no visible spindle marks on the label. It has been well looked after and played perhaps only a couple of times. It looks brand new.
Side 2 is in the same Excellent (EX) condition: looks stunning, a couple of spindle marks near the centre of the label, otherwise record is visually perfect.
SOUND:
Visually, Side 1 has no surface marks and plays in Excellent condition with barely any occasional background crackles.
Side 2 has no surface marks and this side plays in Excellent condition with barely any background crackles in some of the quieter areas.
The record has been listened to via headphones to achieve an accurate grade.
Bobby Gentry - The Delta Sweete:
"Delta Sweete was Bobbie Gentry's 1968 follow-up to her hugely popular Ode to Billie Joe record -- the title track topped the pop charts and made the country Top 20. Although it doesn't quite match the quality of Ode, Delta Sweete does contain a good selection of Gentry originals and some fine covers. The "Sweete" in the title refers to both Gentry's southern-belle good looks (her publishing company was called Super Darlin') and the album's suite structure.
The 12 segued songs detail Gentry's idyllic Mississippi childhood and include portraits of home and church life ("Reunion," "Sermon"), as well as recollections of blues and country hits she certainly heard as a youngster ("Big Boss Man," "Tobacco Road"). In fact, the prevailing sound on both Delta Sweete and Ode to Billy Joe is a swampy, folk-tinged combination of blues and country, with uptown touches like strings and horns seemingly added to reflect the then modern styles of soul and the Nashville sound. Gentry also includes some dreamy, pastoral originals like "Morning Glory" and "Courtyard," songs that could've been written by melancholy folkster Nick Drake.
In light of all the album's good qualities, then, it's a shame it's out of print. Collectables' The Golden Classics of Bobbie Gentry combines the Ode to Billie Joe album with a few tracks from Delta Sweete, including the hits "Okolona River Bottom Band" and "Louisiana Man."

EXCELLENT: The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and / or creasing.
