- You are bidding on the Howlin' Wolf 10 inch record My Life/Going Back Home, catalog number 1648 on the Chess record label. The matrix numbers (located between the dead space after the end of each song) are for My Life - Chess (in script) 8354 PP and Going Back Home - Chess (in script) 8352 PP.
I obtained the following information about the record off the internet: The Howlin’ Wolf single My Life / Going Back Home (Chess 1648) was released in February 1957. The 10-inch version was pressed on shellac at 78 RPM, not vinyl. It’s considered rare because Chess Records was transitioning to 7-inch 45 RPM vinyl singles at the time, so very few 10-inch shellac copies were produced and even fewer survived in good condition.
I have sold one record previously on EBAY and am not a professional record grader. I am trying to be as honest as possible as to the condition of the record. I do have a turntable that plays 10 inch 78 rpm records. I have played both sides of the record and I think it falls into the VERY Good (VG) category as described below and it did not skip or repeat. I assume the record is made of shellac based on the information I obtained off the internet. There is light surface noise throughout both sides of the record, but it sounds good to me. It does have significant scratches and some scuffs. Some might grade it just Good (G) as described below. Perhaps the pictures will provide more details for you to decide on your own. I took 2 pictures of each side of the record. One is under regular light and the second is under a bright light. If you enlarge the pictures under natural light, you can see the imperfections more clearly. I also attached a minute video clip of the song My Life to let you hear the sound quality. If you listen closely, you can hear the background noise I have mentioned. The record does not come with any inner or outer sleeve, album record cover, etc. I do not collect 78 rpm records and I came across this one at an estate sale. I knew it was rare and wanted to sell it to someone who appreciates it more than I do.
Very Good (VG): The record has noticeable wear and may have some surface noise, but it is still playable. The cover may have more significant wear, such as seam splits or ring wear.
Good (G): The record is playable but has significant scratches and surface noise. The cover may be heavily worn or damaged.
Item will be shipped via USPS media rate 12" x 12" x 3/4" regular size vinyl album cardboard box mailer. I rarely sell anything and only take Paypal, but I think you just pay EBAY now and they in turn pay me. I do not ship internationally and only ship within the continental U.S. I do not take returns and have described this record to the best of my ability. Thank you for looking.
