Description
Crying at Daybreak b/w Passing By Blues by Howlin' Wolf on RPM 340. Extremely rare 1951 release--by all accounts, his first 45--includes an early version of Smokestack Lightning on the A-side. Record is visually weak VG to VG-. It is very shiny and shows no evidence of groove wear, but does have scratches, some of which can be felt with a fingernail. On the turntable, you can hear the scratches, but it plays through fine. The music is loud, clear, undistorted, and upfront--excellent fidelity throughout. The labels show moderate crestwear (a little more on Passing By Blues), but have no marks, tears, or other problems. On balance, quite a nice copy of one of the most important records of the post-war era.
GRADING
M- A flawless or nearly flawless record that appears to have seen little or no play.
VG+ Full gloss, a few light marks. A very, very attractive record that has seen limited play and has been well cared for.
VG More marks and scratches, but still a nice record. Scratches may be fairly numerous, but will be light.
VG- Lots of marks and scratches but no gauges or major problems. Not a beautiful record, but still serviceable, not junk.
G+ and G Heavy wear and marks, plays through okay.
