Description

From Leonard Feather's personal collection comes this mono test pressing for Art Blakey's Buhaina's Delight on Blue Note BLP 4104.  The playing surface is bright and clean throughout and plays as new; there is an inaudible surface scratch on Side B, from the end of Track 2 through Track 3.  The dead wax has "Van Gelder" and "P" (note that the "ear" is a misnomer: it is actually a "P" for Plastylite, the company that pressed Blue Note records).  The test pressing was sent to Feather in a paper sleeve on which he wrote his listening comments in preparation for his album liner notes.  In this very rare instance, an original carbon copy of his typed six-page liner notes is included.  Dated 3/21/62, the notes provide a window into Blue Note's production process, from the December 18, 1961 recording session, to the production of the test pressing on March 13, 1962, to Feather's liner notes just eight days later.

Personnel includes Freddie Hubbard, Curtis Fuller, and Wayne Shorter.
