Very limited reissue of one of the rarest albums on the legendary Holyground label. Originally from 1974 Blue Epitaph were essentially a folky singer-songwriter duo who recorded this mostly self composed LP with assistance from various friends and Holyground acquaintances. The music is laid back downer folk rock with mournful male vocals, a similar sort of sound to a lot of the rare Folk Heritage albums but with more of a contemporary underground feel and less reliance on traditional material, not an album I play often but one I always enjoy when I do hear it.
This good quality reissue is almost exactly the same as the rare original issue with only minute differences, the date on the label being the most obvious one, even the sleeve is the same foldover design. This is also almost as hard to find as the original issue but nowhere near the same price range.
The sleeve is in fine condition but is not perfect, there is a small mark on the left side of the front sleeve which looks as if it is sticker residue, I had a half-hearted attempt at removing this but didn’t want to cause further damage so left it. That mark aside the front is clean with no tears, no writing, a couple flight creases which aren’t anything serious, no ringwear or any other type of wear.
The rear sleeve (which contains song lyrics so that you can sing along) is also in fine shape, no writing or teras, again a couple of small light creases which aren’t anything too significant,no ringwear or any other type of wear.
Inside the gatefold is fine, the only damage or wear of any type is a couple of light creases on the foldover flaps which given the unorthodox design are almost inevitable. There are no seams or spine as on a conventional sleeve, simply folded card, but what edges there are are unworn.
The record is very clean and in fine condition but has been played a few times. The vinyl however has retained a nice dark sheen and there are no visible surface marks anywhere. When played the sound is nice and clear with no distortion or groovewear, no jumping or sticking no pops clicks or crackles other than half a dozen heavy pops on “Orange Room” which didn‘t spoil my enjoyment of the album too much..
