Graded Cover/Record

Vinyl is super clean perfect Near Mint with a couple of slight scuffs from taking the record out of the sleeve and played only by me once!   I played it last night and this sounds absolutely fantastic. Labels are clean brand new.  Cover is super clean and still looks brand new with super nice gloss and each LP and the jacket have been stored in a plastic sleeve.  Original plastic lined paper inner sleeve is in excellent shape.

Sound Quality: Kevin Gray and Steve Hoffman's mastering is the best sounding! The bass and overall sonics on this mastering is FABULOUS!  This would be a great demonstration record for your friends at your party!

For Ben Webster, his Los Angeles years of the late 1950's and early 1960's held massive frustration that was relieved by only a few high points. Jobs were scarce, and the lack of recognition and appreciation must have been heartbreaking for this tenor saxophone giant who felt things deeply. A bright spot for Webster was that when he worked, it was often with the splendid band in this album. In Jimmy Rowles, Jim Hall, Red Mitchell and Frank Butler, he had sympathetic and inspirational colleagues. This live recording captures their remarkable empathy.

My copy of this still sounds mighty fine so naturally it provided the perfect opportunity to determine whether the luxury double 45rpm version justified the significant additional expense...Moving to the 45rpm version immediately blew away any regrets. It was a revelation. The cymbal work that opens the number is less bright and several degrees more real, the drums are even more dynamic, the piano more full bodied. The bass - not best presented in the original recording - is much clearer in the mix with more weight. Staging has gained both in height and depth and Webster is even more tangibly live, every nuance of his playing clearly conveyed...Worth the extra money? Condition: I grade according to Goldmine standards. That means a VG+ vinyl will be just that, an LP that is in beautiful condtion! I am very picky when it comes to grading and grade to Goldmine standards. I absolutely hate it when dealers ameliorate the condition of the vinyl!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Especially when I am the buyer!! All my Lp's have been stored in my house upright on a shelf in an air conditioned and dry environment, meaning no warping, staining or mildew!
