BACKGROUND TO THIS RECORD:

I remember putting up a copy this towards the end of 2006 when I first started. Startled by the great response, I withdrew it, gave it a lower grading as I did not want to raise expectations too much and relisted it. It still sold for 118 pounds on 4th January 2007! This is another copy which I just picked up and which looks far better than the earlier one which incidently had a couple of water stains as well as a signature.

It is a 1965 issue on the Australian Leedon label and pressed by Festival Records, Australia and laminated on both sides by the thicker laminates of that period. I have indicated a starting price of half of what it fetched the last time with no reserve.

GRADING RESULTS:

I would rate the cover as Near Mint. There are no tears or writings on both the front and reverse sides of the cover and all the 4 edges are still sharp and rigid. There are a couple of faint discolouration spots along the entry side but nothing serious. The back is generally clean and the glue on the flipback still strong and intact. There is a retailer's name written on the inner part of the jacket.

The Vinyl looks Near Mint . Only when looked directly beneath a strong light were a couple of very faint hairline scratches visible but these did not affect play. The vinyl maintains its shine and lustre and is mirror like. There were no spindle marks. Tracking at 1.7g on my Naim Aro tonearm/Lyra Clavis cartridge, there was some slight soft clicks but it did not detract too much from the listening pleasure and there was no distortion. I would rate the playing as a strong VG++ to Excellent.

How I Clean and  Grade my Records

Cleaning: Cleaning is usually done on a Loricraft PRC 4 cleaning machine and/or VPI 17.5 using the US made 3 stage Walker cleaning solution.

Playback Equipment: Playback is through a Linn LP12 turntable/Armeggedon/Naim Aro tonearm/Lyra Helikon SL cartridge and through a brace of active Naim 250s/135s into Naim DBL speakers. For 45s I use a second Linn/Lingo/Aro/Linn Troika though I tend to interchange the arms at times.

I use both Goldmine and Rare Record Price Guide grading system as a guide and came up with the following:

·       Mint  I only use this for sealed items. The record is virtually unplayed and is in a brand new condition. Cover is pristine. Up till now, I have never used this grading and, chances are, never will, due to my conservative nature in matters of record grading.

·       Near Mint  Very little or negligible flaws. Faint lines or very faint creasing  on laminated covers visible under a strong light is acceptable but nothing serious. Records which show some signs of having been played such as very faint spindle marks are allowed but there should be no lessening in sound quality. .

·       Excellent   Item obviously played, though not often, and enjoyed with some slight noise. The record should be nice and shiny but may have a few light marks which should not intrude on play. Slight wear on cover is acceptable.

·         Very Good Many more imperfections which are noticeable but not obtrusive. The record has been played several times but there should be no major deterioration in sound quality despite some noticeable surface marks and light scratches. Normal wear and tear or writings on the cover  is acceptable but there should not be any major tears.

I do not offer any records below Very Good  unless its extremely rare.

Just to point out there is a slight error under "Artiste, Record Title and Label". It is not pressed in Singapore but Australia. In the  detailed write-up under background I have stated so.
