This has to be one of the very scarcest UK major label issues ever. Back in the days when I was collecting soundtrack LPs this was one of the toughest to track down and even now I guess I only have a spare every two or three years, most of which sell without ever being advertised. Of course soundtrack albums only sold for a fairly short space of time while the film was showing and to a very small specialised market which in some way would explain the rarity but still this is an incredibly scarce one.

And you what? It’s actually good too! Cool laid back groovy lounge jazz from the Dudley Moore trio which just sounds great, so good that even if this were the most common record in the world I would still be advocating you checking it out. Couple of vocal tracks, the title track which you’ll know from it’s appearance on compilations but it still sounds great every time (and contains one of the great put down lines of all time “You fill me with inertia!”) and “The Leaping Nuns Chorus” which is just pure Cook and Moore and probably the only track on the album you’d leave off after hearing it a few times. I’ve yet to meet anyone who didn’t love this one.

Condition:

Sleeve: Pretty strong. It’s the usual Decca thin card affair laminated on the front only. The front is in fine shape, it’s clean with no writing or tears anywhere, there is a (very) small amount of creasing in the top left corner, right in the very corner where the stereo logo is, this isn’t anything serious and in a PVC sleeve (which I’ll supply) isn’t noticeable at arms length, there’s also a couple of insignificant half moon creases near the open edge but again nothing of any consequence. The unlaminated rear is also pretty good, it’s white card which would show any marks but generally speaking it’s clean with only some very very light ringwear showing, and really that’s just the start of some ringwear rather than anything heavy, at some time there has been some tape along the top seam which has been removed leaving a small yellowing patch along the top edge. Both top and bottom seams are totally unworn. The spine is unworn apart from that small area of creasing at the top of the front sleeve which carries over onto the spine, this doesn’t really affect anything and all of the writing is clearly readable.

Both labels are perfect, very clean with no writing, tears or stickers and no visible spindle wear.

Record: As nice a copy as I’ve seen for a long time. It’s very clean and obviously hasn’t been played much. When held under a harsh light there are only a few insignificant hairline marks to be seen, these are caused by taking the record in and out of it’s sleeve and are totally inaudible. On playing, well, it just sounds great with a nice clear sharp sound across the full dynamic range, the only surface noise is a few seconds of very quiet crackles during the run in grooves on each side which disappears before the music starts, might just need a good clean to get rid of these but as they don’t interfere with the music I haven’t bothered. Totally silent between tracks I can’t imagine you’re going to find a better copy easily.
