Description

Sidney Bechet and Omer Simeon -
JAZZ A LA CREOLE -
Jazztone J-1213 -
VERY RARE!

You start "talk" about saxophonist Sidney Bechet, you're talking "Pops," the grand-daddy of them all.

Not only did he start playing in knee-pants at the turn of the century (as the liner notes like to point out), he is about as central as you'll get to tracing back the sax family tree in jazz.

Here, along with Lil Armstrong on piano and Zutty Singleton on drums, he delivers New Orleans-style MY MELANCHOLY BABY, LIMEHOUSE BLUES, BLACK BOTTOM, ROCKIN' CHAIR, and BIG BUTTER AND EGG MAN, among others.

Puh-lease...do not miss a note.

Side 2 is reserved for Omer Simeon, also of the New Orleans tradition, his clarinet speaking volumes on QUA-TI BLUES, GRAND BOUBOUSSE, FRANKIE AND JOHNNY, BILL BAILEY WON'T YOU COME HOME, and LAGNIAPPE, among others.  (Leaves you breathless, it does.)

Not all that easy to find in great shape, this release of JAZZ A LA CREOLE comes to you in near mint shape, through and through: Cover is crisp with but a tiny amount of poke-through up top.  Record within shows very little sign of play.  Near mint in playback, perhaps better.

A prize, entirely worthy of any jazz library.

For other fine records, TAS picks and hard-to-finds, please see my complete list of offerings here on eBay.

Shipping and handling is $5 for up to 5 LPs shipped within the States. Internationally, $15 via airmail for the first LP, $3 each thereafter. (Canada is half that.) Boxes over 4 lbs., add another $6, because First Class is no longer available at that weight, just Priority Mail. Note, too, boxed sets of LPs require more postage.
