Released with much anticipation in early October 1982, The Collection was lauded by critics and Beatles fans worldwide for the superb sound, and sold-out completely within the first year. Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab (MFSL) pressed a second run of the Beatles Boxed Set for a total production run of 25,000 over the next two years or until October 1985.[2]
Each album was pressed on black vinyl by the Victor Company of Japan. The album covers were replaced with photographs of tape boxes and log sheet. The original album covers were included in a booklet which also featured a certificate of authenticity as this was a limited edition collection.
This is the first album I have put on eBay from my brother's collection, who is sadly in a nursing home. I am trying to offer the gems from his collection to true audiophiles before selling off the rest as a collection - over 3000 albums, many of which have never been opened, and 5000 45's.
Albums appear to have never been taken from their plastic sleeves. All albums are still in their plastic sleeves, inside a cardboard half sleeve, inside the above mentioned cover. The included book still has the protective paper cover on it, and the set includes the Mobile Fidelity Sound Labs "Geo-Disc" for cartridge alignment.
There appears to be a white dust or paint on the top of the box -see last picture. Most of it came off with a fine brush, but I didn't want to cause more damage, since I don't know what I'm doing. Frankly it is hard to see, but I'm trying to be honest. Otherwise, this set is in new condition.
Finally able to revise! Authentication number is on the inside cover of the booklet . #4864 Sorry for the poor manner in which I am running this item. I am recovering from a heart attack, I just had to move, and yesterday my brother went back in the hospital. I'll try to respond more quickly, though all offers to date have been pretty low.
