Quality vinyl for the discerning collector
Please check out my other listings for more high end Beatles vinyl.
The Beatles –Help!– Genuine 1965 1st issue UK mono pressing on the yellow & black Parlophone label and ‘Sold in UK…’ label text, catalogue number PMC 1255 dating to the original release date of August 6th 1965.
A very early copy and most likely pressed ahead of the August 6th 1965 release date.
Released at the very height of their powers and just days before their momentous gig at Shea Stadium. Help! captures all the dynamism and energy of a band who are at the top of their game.
Quality Beatles vinyl is a finite resource and is now becoming increasingly difficult to obtain.
Don’t miss out.
Matrix numbers: XEX 549-2 & XEX 550-2N (Please note – 1N was not used on any mono UK 1st press Help! issue)
Stamper codes: 4/GH & 2/GH (early two digit mono stampers)
Please check out the pictures and read on for further details:-
CONDITION
Disc
Visual: MINT-
This very early pressing retains its original sheen and has been very well cared for. In strong daylight the disc appears in mint condition and is unmarked. Under a halogen desklight nothing much more is revealed other than ultra faint whispy sleeve removal marks and one or two of the faintest micro surface marks only visible under very close inspection and only in certain directional light. The record is above excellent+ and therefore a MINT- or near MINT grade is appropriate. The disc lies 100% flat on the turntable.
Labels: Side 1 EXCELLENT+ Side 2 MINT-
There are faint spindle traces mainly to side 1 but other than that very little to fault. There is no writing to either label. The KT tax code appears on side one.
Audio: MINT
One of, if not the finest sounding copy I have heard of ‘Help!’. Astonishing flawless audio throughout. Run-ins and all gaps are silent and whilst vinyl can never ultimately match the silence of a CD (because of the very nature of the needle making contact with the vinyl) the audio on this pressing could easily be mistaken to the quietness of a CD. However, this not a digital re-mastered CD but a glorious analogue UK 1st pressing with all the richness and detail of the original Abbey Road master tapes. The familiar opening burst of music to ‘Help!’ is flawless and undistorted. Tracks such as ‘The Night Before’ and ‘You’ve Got to Hide your Love way’ have a sonic presence which only analogue sound can deliver. The easily damaged track ‘Yesterday’ which on most copies has surface noise is on this copy perfect . The mono version of ‘Yesterday’ is in my opinion the definitive one. Needless to say the record does not jump or stick. A true audiophile copy which will not disappoint.
Cover
EXCELLENT
An original 1st issue patents pending Garrod & Lofthouse cover dating to 1965. The front panel still retains much of its original freshness and is virtually mint. The back panel is clean and free from any writing and has only light signs of discolouration and ageing. On very close inspection there is some very minor damage along the top edge but this is barely noticeable even under close inspection. All flipbacks are intact. One only has to check out the state of most covers from this era to realise that this is a solid example and rare in this condition. Severely graded at excellent.
Inner-sleeve Excellent
Original Emitex rice paper inner.
